WASHINGTON, DC: In a heated exchange of interviews, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas fired back at Speaker Mike Johnson's criticism of President Joe Biden's executive order on asylum-seekers at the southern border, as per The Hill.

Mayorkas labeled Johnson's remarks as "mistaken," while the Speaker accused the Secretary of having a "serious problem with the truth," sparking a firestorm of reactions across social media platforms.

Johnson recently appeared on Fox News with host Neil Cavuto, where he criticized Biden's executive order on asylum policy at the southern border. Johnson claimed that Biden could "close the border entirely" if he genuinely wanted to address the border crisis.

He argued that Biden’s executive order, which aims to limit asylum seekers crossing illegally during times of high volume, worsens the situation by allowing thousands to cross the border daily before existing federal immigration laws are enforced.

"If he really wanted to solve the border, Neil, he could close the border entirely. But this half-measure executive order he just did actually exacerbates the problem. He’s allowing thousands of people over the border every day before they just begin to enforce existing federal immigration law," Johnson claimed.

Johnson’s criticism did not stop at Biden's policies; he also targeted Mayorkas directly. He asserted that the Homeland Security Secretary had a "serious problem with the truth," a claim he used to justify the push for Mayorkas' impeachment.

"What I say is this is exactly why we had to impeach Secretary Mayorkas — he has a serious problem with the truth. What he’s saying is comical," Johnson told Cavuto.

The feud intensified as Johnson rebuffed Mayorkas’s claim that Congress’s inaction forced the Biden administration to take executive measures. Mayorkas had previously told Cavuto that the administration had acted due to Congress's failure to address border security adequately.

Johnson responded by highlighting H.R. 2, a bill passed by the House over a year ago to secure the border.

"He just said that the Republicans didn’t act? We passed H.R. 2 — the most secure border measure in the history of Congress — 14 months ago. It is still sitting on Chuck Schumer’s desk in the Senate right now. That would have actually fixed the problem," Johnson asserted.

In response, Mayorkas addressed Johnson’s remarks in a CNN interview, countering that the House Speaker's assertions were incorrect. "I think it’s mistaken. I wish the Speaker would actually promote and pass the Senate’s bipartisan legislation that would be the toughest enforcement measures in more than 30 years," Mayorkas expressed.

Mayorkas emphasized the importance of legislative action over rhetoric, stating, "Action speaks louder than words, and the words are mistaken."
