WASHINGTON, DC: Top Senate Democrats - Sen Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) - sent Trump Chief of Staff Susie Wiles a letter on Tuesday, December 30, asking her to explain how she knew certain details of the Epstein files.

In an explosive interview with Vanity Fair earlier in December, Wiles made several eyebrow-raising comments, including verifying that Trump was on Epstein’s plane, which the POTUS has denied.

Top Senate Dems expect reply from Susie Wiles by January 5, 2026

The senators wrote to Susie Wiles in the letter, "In a recent Vanity Fair profile, you said you have read ‘the Epstein files and that President Trump ‘is in the file’; ‘was on [Epstein’s] plane’; and is ‘on the manifest.’ Please be kind enough to explain when, where, and under what authority you gained access to this material, as requested below. It would be good to have your responses to the following questions by January 5, 2026."

They also added some specific questions, such as, "Did you share with President Trump any information contained in the file you reviewed?" and "For what purpose did you gain access to this information?" They also asked, "Please describe your role in any process related to the review, redaction, withholding, or release of material in the 'Epstein files', including any processes involving the Justice Department or the FBI."

The Vanity Fair report was based on several conversations writer Chris Whipple had with Wiles and other key figures in the West Wing. Whipple quoted Wiles criticizing Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Epstein Files, which includes giving MAGA influencers binders of useless documents.

Wiles said of Bondi, "I think she completely whiffed on appreciating that that was the very targeted group that cared about this. First, she gave them binders full of nothingness. And then she said that the witness list, or the client list, was on her desk. There is no client list, and it sure as hell wasn’t on her desk."

Susie Wiles says Trump was 'wrong' about Bill Clinton

Susie Wiles said that President Trump 'was wrong' to accuse former President Bill Clinton of visiting Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, as per the Vanity Fair profile published on December 16.

In July, the POTUS claimed Clinton made multiple trips to Epstein’s island. Speaking to reporters, Trump said, "By the way, I never went to the island, and Bill Clinton went there, supposedly, 28 times."

Susie Wiles said she reviewed the Epstein documents and confirmed that Trump’s name appears in them. "There is no evidence" that Bill Clinton made any visits to Epstein private island, Wiles told Vanity Fair. She further dismissed Trump’s suggestion that the documents contained anything incriminating about Clinton, saying, "The president was wrong about that."

Wiles added that FBI Director Kash Patel had long pushed to release the Epstein files. "For years, Kash has been saying, 'Got to release the files, got to release the files'. And he's been saying that with a view of what he thought was in these files that turns out not to be right," she said.
