'Total loser': Trump rages at former Georgia Lt Gov Geoff Duncan as he ditches GOP for Democratic Party

WASHINGTON, DC: Georgia’s former Lt Gov Geoff Duncan announced this week that he has officially joined the Democratic Party.
The move follows his expulsion from the Georgia GOP earlier this year for what party leaders described as disloyalty. Duncan, who served as the lieutenant governor of Georgia from 2019 to 2023, has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, frequently opposing the president’s claims about the 2020 election.
Donald Trump says 'good riddance' after Geoff Duncan's party switch
Reacting to the news on Truth Social in a late-night tirade, Donald Trump dismissed Geoff Duncan as a political failure.
“Failed former Lt Governor Geoff Duncan, of Georgia, is a total loser. Was never able to get anything done, all he ever did was complain. We didn’t want him in the Republican Party any longer, so I’m told he became a Democrat. Good riddance Geoff. You don’t even have a chance!!!” the 79-year-old wrote.
The rebuke follows a history of personal and political clashes, including Trump’s August 2024 posts urging the Georgia GOP to remove Duncan from the party, calling him a “bum” and a “total lightweight.”

In an op-ed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan explained that his shift began well before January 6, 2021, and Trump’s post-election conduct. He pointed to growing policy disagreements and what he described as a personal struggle to reconcile his Republican identity with his values.
Duncan was formally expelled from the party in January after endorsing former President Joe Biden in 2024 and later backing former Vice President Kamala Harris when Biden exited the race.
The Georgia GOP accused him of using his former Republican title in media appearances, including as a CNN contributor, to attack the party.
Donald Trump’s ‘total loser’ jab at Geoff Duncan sparks uproar

President Donald Trump’s decision to label ex-Georgia Lt.Gov. Geoff Duncan a “total loser” after he switched from Republican to Democrat has ignited a storm of online reactions, from praise for Duncan’s move to criticism of both parties.
Some users applauded Duncan for breaking away from Trump-aligned Republicans.
“Not everybody can stand your extreme far-right ideology, there is no Republican party anymore, only b**t kissers... He has chosen to stand against an army of morons, can only earn my respect,” one wrote.

Another added, “Not every Republican wants to be a MAGA who worships Trump.”
Others questioned the political wisdom of his new affiliation. “Not saying the Republicans are a stellar party but going to the Democrats — who are unstable as a party — can get seems like a bad political decision,” one user commented.
Another took a jab at the timing, writing, “How bad can your campaign be if you decide to jump over to the Dem’s sinking ship now???”
While some criticized Duncan, others took aim at Trump’s tone. “Sounds mature and Presidential,” one commenter wrote sarcastically.
