WASHINGTON, DC: First Son Hunter Biden would be a prominent topic of discussion in the upcoming debate between President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump, reported the New York Post, citing an insider source.

The Republican-Democratic Party candidates would come face to face on June 27 at the CNN headquarters in Atlanta for their first presidential debate of the election year.

The trial in Hunter's federal gun charge is set to start on June 3 with jury selection in Delaware. He faces three counts for illegally purchasing a firearm in 2018 by lying about his drug addiction at the time.

The timing of the presidential debate could offer Trump a chance to attack his 81-year-old successor with allegations about the criminal charges against his son if the latter chooses to bring up the hush money trial or any other legal cases against the 45th president.

What could be the possible topics of upcoming Trump-Biden presidential debate?

"Either Joe or the CNN moderators will try and bring up one of Trump's legal cases — that's sort of a given," a source from Trump's side said to the outlet.

"Trump will throw it right back at them about Hunter Biden's ongoing legal troubles and all the evidence that Joe lied during the last debate when he said his son never took money from China."

"It's an easy way to draw blood from Joe Biden when Trump legal stuff comes up. It's a full proof defense and way to make Biden pay," the insider claimed.

The case brought by the Justice Department special counsel, David Weiss, would also use Hunter's infamous laptop as evidence in the trial.

In a recent prosecution filing, Weiss dismissed the defendant's stance on the laptop as a conspiracy theory, citing the absence of supporting evidence. The president's son's "laptop is real (it will be introduced as a trial exhibit), and it contains significant evidence of the defendant's guilt," the special counsel said.

Besides the gun case, Hunter is scheduled to face another trial in California over federal tax evasion charges on September 5. Five days later, Trump and President Biden would face each other for their second debate on September 10, hosted by ABC.

Internet reacts to likely focus on Hunter Biden during Trump-Biden presidential debate

Social media users voiced varied opinions about reports suggesting Hunter could be a focal point of the upcoming presidential debate between his father and Trump.

One user wrote, "Totally unnecessary. Many feel sorry for family issues. Money for the big guy is a tired and used issue from last campaign. Inflation, immigration, crime. just stick with that, for the win."

Meanwhile, another remarked, "They are going to savage one another."

A third user said, "Good. He can watch his dad stutter and shit all over himself for an hour and a half."

"Joe Biden is too classy to do it. But if Trump wants to go after Hunter, Biden should start talking about Trump's own coke-addicted son who's supposedly running his business. Hunter's not out campaigning. Junior and his fake teeth are everywhere," a fourth response read.

Someone else wrote, "He should just say Joe you’re a great guy with a great family - it’s just that your policies have caused utter devastation."

Another person argued, "The actions of the Biden Crime Family must be exposed."
