Trump accuses Ukraine’s leadership of showing ‘zero gratitude’ as debate over peace plan intensifies
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Sunday, November 23, accused Ukraine’s leadership of showing “zero gratitude” for US support, sharpening his criticism of Kyiv amid backlash over his administration’s proposed 28‑point Russia-Ukraine peace framework.
In a morning Truth Social post, Trump denounced Ukraine’s “leadership” without naming President Volodymyr Zelensky and again blamed Ukrainian leaders and President Joe Biden for the continuing conflict.
The War between Russia and Ukraine is a violent and terrible one that, with strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian LEADERSHIP, would have NEVER HAPPENED. It began long before I took office for a Second Term, during the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration, and has only gotten worse. If…

Trump says he 'inherited a war that should have never happened'
“The War between Russia and Ukraine is a violent and terrible one that, with strong and proper US and Ukrainian leadership, would have never happened,” Trump wrote.
He argued that if he had won in 2020, “Putin would never have attacked! It was only when he saw Sleepy Joe in action that he said, ‘Now is my chance!’ The rest is history… I inherited a war that should have never happened, a war that is a loser for everyone, especially the millions of people that have so needlessly died.”
Trump then accused Ukraine’s leaders of failing to recognize Washington’s help, even though Zelensky publicly thanked Trump and the United States before and after their reportedly tense Oval Office meeting in February.
“Ukraine ‘leadership’ has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia," Trump wrote.
He added that the US continues to sell “massive amounts of weapons to NATO, for distribution to Ukraine,” contrasting it with what he called Biden’s giveaways. “Crooked Joe gave everything, free, free, free, including ‘big’ money!”
He closed the post with, “god bless all the lives that have been lost in the human catastrophe!”
Trump’s peace plan criticized as too pro-Russia
Trump’s remarks came as Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Geneva for discussions with Ukrainian officials over a proposed 28-point peace plan.
Critics, including several analysts and lawmakers, have blasted the framework as overly favorable to Russia, some calling it a Moscow “wish list.”
According to lawmakers, including Sen Mike Rounds, Rubio allegedly privately told senators that the plan had not been drafted by Washington but was instead provided to the US.
But shortly afterwards, Rubio publicly contradicted that account, insisting that the proposal was authored by the United States.
“The peace proposal was authored by the US,” Rubio said. “It is offered as a strong framework for ongoing negotiations. It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine,” he added.
The push to end the war in Ukraine has reportedly officially moved to the negotiating table, with high-stakes talks getting underway in Geneva on Sunday.
Delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and key European allies have gathered to hammer out the details of a 28-point peace plan proposed by Trump.
