WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's ally and RNC Chair Joe Gruters said Republicans have filed 130 lawsuits across 32 states because “the Democrats are trying to cheat every single day,” escalating the party’s election-war rhetoric while touting a nationwide legal effort tied to Trump’s broader push to stop elections from being “stolen”.
Gruters framed the lawsuits as part of a wider Republican strategy tied to Trump-backed election integrity efforts. He also claimed the party was expanding staffing and litigation operations in battleground states as Democrats continue opposing the ‘SAVE America Act’.
Joe Gruters ramps up election rhetoric
“The Democrats are trying to cheat every single day. That's why we have to have 130 lawsuits. We're bringing the hammer wherever we can. In 32 states, we have lawsuits because the Democrats are trying to cheat every single day,” Gruters said in an interview on Fox News on Monday, May 18.
He also linked the lawsuits to immigration and voting concerns, saying, “It doesn't matter if it's redistricting. It doesn't matter what they've done is they've allowed tens of millions of illegals to come across our border. And they're trying to figure out ways to get them to vote.”
Gruters further claimed Republicans were preparing a long-term legal operation ahead of future elections.
“We're putting people in place. We already hired staff in 17 states. But we're going to continue our strong litigation effort to make sure we beat back these Democrats and their efforts that have been ongoing for decades in terms of trying to steal elections,” he said.
Trump backs SAVE America Act push
President Trump recently accused Democrats of wanting to “cheat” in elections during an interview with Sharyl Attkisson.
The remarks came as Democrats continue opposing the SAVE Act, formally known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. The legislation would require citizens to present either a birth certificate or a passport when registering to vote.
Trump has described the measure as an effort to crack down on illegal voting in elections, while Gruters suggested the lawsuits and staffing push were designed to reinforce those efforts on the ground.
Legal fight expands across states
The scale of the legal campaign appeared central to Gruters’ message, with the RNC chair repeatedly emphasizing the number of lawsuits and states involved.
Trump has also reiterated debunked assertions about past elections while framing the measure as essential to protect voting integrity. The comments reflect his ongoing strategy of casting doubt on electoral processes to mobilise his base.
