WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump proudly announced on Friday, October 31, a lavish renovation of the Lincoln Bathroom at the White House. The 1940s Art Deco green tile was replaced with black-and-white statuary marble and gold fixtures, marking the latest in a series of historically themed improvements.

This effort follows Trump’s controversial construction of a new ballroom, which involved major changes to the East Wing of the White House.

Trump shared before-and-after photos on his social media, highlighting the central change. “I did it in black-and-white polished Statuary marble,” he wrote. The bathroom, designed for guests rather than as a personal lavatory, now features high-end, pure white Italian marble traditionally used in sculpture.

He referred to the renovation as historically appropriate. “It was renovated in the 1940s in an Art Deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era,” Trump said, adding that his marble choice fits the period.

Trump, displayed pride in the historical accuracy of the redesign. “This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!” he wrote. The bathroom’s fixtures—including shower heads, vent covers, hooks, towel racks, light sconces, and even trash cans—were all finished in gold, reflecting Trump’s signature style.

Donald Trump claims renovation aligns with Lincoln era

Earlier, at a dinner on October 15 to thank donors for his new ballroom project, Trump discussed the Lincoln Bathroom and the previous design. “The bathroom was done by the Truman family,” he said. “It’s done in a green tile style that was not exactly Lincoln. It’s Art Deco, which doesn’t go with 1850 or the Civil War era. So I ripped it apart and built a bathroom absolutely gorgeous and totally in keeping with that time.”

Trump had previously commented on the Lincoln Bathroom’s design during an October 15 dinner to thank donors for his new ballroom project. He noted that the 1940s renovation by the Truman administration used green Art Deco tiles, which he said were “not exactly Lincoln” and did not reflect the historical period of the 1860s.

“Art Deco doesn’t go with 1850 or the Civil War era,” Trump said. “So I ripped it apart and built a bathroom absolutely gorgeous and totally in keeping with that time.” He emphasized that the black-and-white statuary marble now used was historically appropriate, and that the gold fixtures—including shower heads, vent covers, towel racks, hooks, and light sconces—added a luxurious, period-appropriate touch.

Trump framed this attention to historical detail as part of his broader approach to White House renovations, blending personal taste with architectural references to past presidents and maintaining a sense of historical authenticity while also adding a modern, high-end finish.
