WASHINGTON, D.C: President Donald Trump was greeted with hugs and laughter from young trick-or-treaters during the White House’s annual Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 30.

The heartwarming moment unfolded as children excitedly approached the president and first lady Melania Trump during the festive event on the South Lawn.

Some children appeared bashful, but Trump’s approachable demeanor seemed to put them at ease. At one point, the president was seen laughing and speaking with a young trick-or-treater dressed in an inflatable toilet costume labeled “Wide Load,” a sight that drew laughter from nearby guests.

The president’s willingness to engage playfully with children, from exchanging hugs to joking with costumed visitors, became one of the night’s standout moments, symbolizing a lighter side of the White House festivities.

Internet praises Trump’s wholesome Halloween moment with children

The heartwarming White House Halloween moment between Trump and the trick-or-treaters sparked an outpouring of praise online.

“This is what I love about him - he’s not in it for the clout, even kids recognize that,” one user wrote. “He truly wants America to be better for everyone. Kids get this!”

Another said, “Can you imagine? He just spent what, 12–15 hours on a plane and is giving out Halloween candy. God bless this man!”

“Incredible! Yesterday President Trump was in meetings with China’s President Xi negotiating major trade deals, and today he’s at the White House distributing hugs and candy to American children,” another comment read.

One admirer added, “I have so much respect for President Trump. How does he manage a major trip meeting with world leaders and still come home in time to hang out with people celebrating Halloween at the White House? What a GOAT!!! ✝️🇺🇸😇🙏❤️”

“This is lovely,” a user remarked. “At least I don’t hold my breath when I see Trump with kids — unlike Biden, where I hope he wouldn’t do something creepy.”

Another wrote, “The decorations are stunning. Coming home to hugs is a nice change of pace for 45–47 after his successful dealmaking!”

“Nice to have a President your kids will be safe around,” one person concluded.

Trump repeats viral “candy on the head” move

The joyful atmosphere continued as Trump revisited one of his most famous Halloween gestures — the “candy on the head” move, first seen in 2019.

During the event, a child dressed as the DJ Marshmello approached the Trumps for candy. Instead of placing the chocolate bar into the child’s bag, Trump playfully balanced it on the child’s helmet.

The move, which mirrored his viral 2019 moment with a Minion-costumed child, drew laughter from the crowd as the trick-or-treater tilted their head in confusion before walking away with the candy perched on top.

This year, however, Melania Trump opted not to join in on the prank, instead sharing a gentler moment with a young girl who hesitated to approach, bending down to reassure her.

The South Lawn was filled with costumed children of military families, law enforcement officers, and administration staff. As the US Air Force Strings played Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller', the Trumps handed out full-sized Hershey bars and Twizzlers to excited children, maintaining a cheerful atmosphere throughout the evening.
