WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has repeated his famous "candy on the head move" at the White House's annual trick-or-treat celebration on Thursday, October 30, delighting onlookers and mirroring a viral moment from 2019.
This time, the 79-year-old put a large candy bar on a child's helmet, repeating an incident from four years earlier with a trick-or-treater.

The president, who just returned to the White House on Thursday after a hectic trip to Asia, joined first lady Melania Trump to celebrate Halloween.
The couple emerged from the South Entrance around 6 pm ET to the sound of a military string ensemble playing Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.
During the White House's annual trick-or-treat event, Trump revived his viral, off-script gesture from 2019 that had previously sparked amusement.
In the original 2019 incident, instead of placing a piece of candy into the bag carried by a child who was dressed as a Minion, Trump opted to put it directly on the child's head, with the first lady following suit.
White House trick-or-treat moments
During Thursday's event, a child approached the president and first lady dressed as the popular DJ Marshmello, complete with the signature rectangular helmet.
As the child presented his bag, Trump moved to place a giant candy bar right on top of the helmet.
The child momentarily appeared confused, tilting his head back to understand the action, but then seemed to grasp the joke, walking away with the candy bar balanced on their head.
This time, however, Melania chose not to repeat after her husband's move.

Beyond the viral moment, Melania also shared a sweet moment with a young girl who seemed hesitant to approach, stooping down to reassure the child.
Separately, the Trumps delighted a boy dressed as the president, complete with a blue suit, red tie, and MAGA hat, and a little girl dressed as the first lady, in a white coat, with Trump giving the boy a high-five and telling the duo to pose for a photo.
Internet reacts to Trump reviving viral move
The recreated moment generated significant buzz, with many observers noting the direct callback to the 2019 event.
One of Johnson's producers, Danny De Urbina, continued to comment on the scene, stating, "NO WAY! President Trump just put a candy bar on some kid's head dressed as a marshmallow at the White House Halloween Party and made him balance it while waddling off. He knows the meme. Gangster."

Another X user quipped, "It's @POTUS Halloween version of the YMCA dance!"
Haha, only Trump would turn giving out candy into a throwback performance 😂. At least the kids got a good laugh… and maybe a sugar rush

A follower praised Trump, writing, "Incredible! If I had his schedule meeting with World Leaders in Asia over the last 3 days, I sure wouldn't be in any condition to host a Halloween party. We are so lucky to have him as POTUS."

It is to be noted that dozens of children and parents from military and law enforcement families, foster and adoptive families, and families of various White House staff attended an event that lasted for over an hour despite the president's recent travel. Among those in the line were top staffers like Steven Miller and Karoline Leavitt with their families.

The mansion was beautifully decorated with dozens of carved jack-o-lanterns, faux falling autumn leaves, and fall foliage, with music from ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ setting the mood. Meanwhile, President Trump said he was still not done for the day, mentioning a planned virtual town hall with state attorneys general despite his demanding schedule.
