Trump blasts Chuck Schumer for mocking his Asia trip, calls it ‘almost treasonous’
BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA: President Donald Trump on Thursday, October 30, tore into Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s criticism of his Asia tour, branding the Democrat’s remarks as “almost treasonous.”
The president said on Truth Social that Schumer’s comments allegedly belittled what he described as a major diplomatic and economic success.
“Worked really hard, 24/7, took in Trillions of Dollars, and Chuck Schumer said the trip was ‘a total dud,’ even though he knows it was a spectacular success,” Trump wrote. “Words like that are almost treasonous!”

Chuck Schumer mocks Trump’s ‘gallivanting in Asia’
On Wednesday, Schumer ridiculed Trump’s trip during a speech on the Senate floor, saying, “As we enter the 29th day of the government shutdown, where’s Donald Trump? Gallivanting in Asia, dancing in Malaysia.”
He accused the president of planning to “sell out the American people” in his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan, by “giving away vital national security tools in exchange for little more than a photo op.”
Schumer also mocked Trump’s tendency to boast about achievements that, in his view, created problems in the first place.
“President Trump is about to congratulate himself, patting himself hard on the back for cleaning up a mess that he created,” the New York Democrat said.
On X, Schumer wrote about Trump's China trip, "Don’t believe his b******t. Trump folded on China."
Trump touts progress with Xi Jinping
Despite Schumer’s jibes, Trump hailed his meeting with Xi as a breakthrough.
“A lot of finalization,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after leaving Busan.
He described the approximately 100-minute-long conversation as “amazing,” rating it a 12 on a scale of 10.
The president said a deal could be signed “pretty soon” and that there were “not too many major stumbling blocks.”
Trump said that he plans to visit China in April 2026, with Xi Jinping expected to travel to the United States “some time after that,” either to Florida or Washington.
The meeting in Busan marked the conclusion of Trump’s three-country Asia tour, which also reportedly focused on drug control, rare earth supply chains, and trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
Trump says he and Xi Jinping 'have a great understanding'
The two leaders arrived within minutes of each other at South Korea’s Gimhae Air Base, a military facility adjacent to Gimhae International Airport in Busan.
“We have a great understanding. We have a great relationship, we’ve always had a great relationship,” Trump said.
He added that he expected “a very successful meeting” and referred to Xi as “a very tough negotiator.”

It's a great honor to be with a friend of mine, really for a long time now, if you think about it, the very, very distinguished and respected president of China.
We will be having some discussions. I think… pic.twitter.com/F5vQfqNjHv
Xi Jinping spoke through a translator and appeared to match Trump’s genial tone.
“It’s a great pleasure to meet with President Trump,” Xi said, adding that he felt “very warm” seeing the American leader again, because it had been many years.
Xi revealed that he and Trump had spoken three times and exchanged “several letters” since Trump’s return to the White House, noting that Sino-American relations had “remained stable on the whole” despite some bumps along the way.
“Given our different national conditions, we do not always see eye to eye with each other, and it is normal for the two leading economies of the world to have frictions now and then and in the face of winds, waves, and challenges,” Xi said.
