WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has reacted positively to the suggestion of appointing rapper Nicki Minaj as the next White House press secretary, calling it a “good idea” during an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson.
When Johnson asked whether Minaj could take on the position, Trump said he would think about it, adding that Johnson himself might also be suitable for the role.

During the interview, Johnson asked Trump, “Is Nicki Minaj going to be the next press secretary?”
“That's a good idea. I think I'll have to think about that. I'm going to think about that,” Trump replied.

The president then turned the question toward Johnson, adding, “How about you? You'd be pretty good too.”
Trump did not announce an appointment or confirm that Minaj was formally being considered for the position. His response came after the suggestion had already sparked online discussion as White House Communications Director Steven Cheung previously joked that the rapper could be the administration's next press secretary.

The speculation began gaining traction on Sunday, October 25, when Cheung shared a video of himself interviewing Minaj aboard Air Force One as Trump travelled to Michigan for a campaign rally.
In the clip, Cheung asked the rapper about the president's understanding of the economy, business experience, and demanding campaign schedule.
Minaj praised Trump's financial background, saying he understood economics because he had experienced financial difficulties and rebuilt his own business interests. She also described him as tough in international affairs.

“He outworks people who are half his age,” Minaj said while discussing Trump's campaign schedule.
Cheung captioned the video: “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Minaj also shared the clip on her social media account, adding an American flag and a smiling emoji.
Nicki Minaj says she will support Trump if he decides to run again
Minaj's appearance aboard Air Force One came shortly before she joined Trump onstage at a Republican campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan.
During the event, the 'Side to Side' crooner expressed continued support for the president and said she would stand with him whenever possible.
“President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time,” she told the crowd. “And I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again.”

She also encouraged voters to support Republican candidates in the November 3 midterm elections, describing the upcoming vote as a major turning point for the country.
The rapper's association with the administration extends beyond her recent campaign appearances. In January 2026, she attended the Trump Accounts Summit at the Andrew W Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC, where she appeared alongside the president.

She was also named a celebrity judge for the Small Business Administration's Million Dollar Pitch Competition, joining entrepreneur Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia.
The press secretary speculation comes after Katie Zacharia's brief five-day tenure in the position ended earlier in October. However, neither Trump nor the White House has announced Minaj as her replacement.
