ASPEN, COLORADO: Donald Trump was caught on tape making crass jokes about the widow of a firefighter shot and killed during the assassination attempt against the former president in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In the leaked audio obtained by The Guardian, the GOP presidential nominee joked about Helen Comperatore, the wife of late firefighter Corey Comperatore, reflecting on her reaction when he gave the $1 million GoFundMe money.

The remarks were made on August 10 during a private fundraiser in Aspen, Colorado.

Corey died from the would-be Trump assassin's bullet while trying to shield his family at the Pennsylvania rally on July 13.

During the private fundraiser, Trump recalled the meeting with Helen Comperatore and attempted to add humor to the untimely death of her husband.

"So they're going to get millions of dollars but the woman, the wife, this beautiful woman, I handed her the cheque – we handed her the cheque – and she said, 'This is so nice, and I appreciate it, but I'd much rather have my husband.' Now, I know some of the women in this room wouldn't say the same," he said.

This prompted a burst of laughter from the dinner guests. The real estate mogul then singled out certain club members who could be the target of the joke but omitted Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who was among the attendees.

"I know at least four couples. There are four couples, Governor [Abbott], that I know and you're not one of them. At least four couples here would have been thrilled, actually," Trump quipped.

The fundraiser reportedly raised more than 12 million for the MAGA leader's third presidential bid

Donald Trump made similar joke against Helen Comperatore earlier

However, this is not the first time Donald Trump has made jokes about the late Corey Comperatore's widow. Just two weeks after the assassination attempt, Trump made similar remarks demeaning Helen's reaction to the compensation given to her.

Speaking at a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on July 31, he claimed that the widow said she would rather have her husband back than the money. Weighing in on her response, Trump said a lot of wives would not say that.

The latest audio leak came as Trump prepares to hold another rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the site where the assassination attempt occurred.

Speaking to reporters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he said the event would "celebrate the life of Corey".
