WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump stirred new controversy on Friday, July 25, claiming that Barack Obama “owes me big” following a landmark Supreme Court ruling that grants immunity for presidential acts.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One for a trip to Scotland, Trump framed the July 2024 ruling, widely seen as a legal win for him and also benefiting his predecessor.

The court’s decision, which affirmed broad immunity from criminal prosecution for official presidential conduct, came as Trump faces multiple legal challenges across state and federal courts.

“It probably helps him a lot — the immunity ruling, but it doesn’t help the people around him at all,” Trump said, referring to Obama. “But it probably helps him a lot. He’s done criminal acts, there’s no question about it, but he has immunity. He owes me big. Obama owes me big.”

Trump’s comments come days after he accused Obama of orchestrating what he called a seditious campaign to undermine his 2016 presidential win. He alleged that the former president ordered intelligence agencies to produce a report on Russian interference, which Trump claims were part of a broader effort to delegitimize his presidency.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday, July 22, intensified his long-standing claims of political persecution, directly accusing Barack Obama of leading a covert campaign to fuel the now-debunked Russia collusion narrative during the 2016 election.

“It’s criminal at the highest level,” Trump said in remarks to reporters, adding, “President Obama, he started it. And (Joe) Biden was there with him, and (then-FBI Director James) Comey was there, and Clapper — the whole group was there, and (then-CIA Director John) Brennan.”

“This is like proof, irrefutable proof that Obama was seditious, that Obama led, was trying to lead a coup — and it was with Hillary Clinton, with all these other people, but Obama headed it up,” he added.

Barack Obama camp dismisses accusations as 'bizarre'

A spokesperson for Barack Obama, Patrick Rodenbush, swiftly pushed back against the allegations, dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated.

“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one,” he said.

“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction,” Rodenbush said in a statement. “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”

President Donald Trump’s latest comments claiming that Barack Obama “owes me big” after the Supreme Court granted broad immunity to presidents for official acts have ignited a firestorm online, with both critics and supporters weighing in.

One user blasted the idea of immunity altogether, “I don’t see how ANYONE could have immunity to treason,” while the other user lamented, “So a president can commit treason and it’s fine? Hmmmm…”

Another interpreted Trump’s remarks, saying, “‘Obama owes me big.’ Meaning he worked with the deep state to become the target by which immunity was even clarified on this matter so Obama wouldn't be held accountable. If you can't see that, I feel sorry for you!”

“Presidential immunity only applies to acts while in office. The Russia Hoax was concocted and pushed by Obama while Trump was in office in Dec 2016,” one wrote.

“Obama continued to perpetuate the seditious conspiracy he created after he left office. You can still prosecute him,” another added.

Others were more direct with one saying, “C'mon Mr President! Treason is not protected. We evidently can't do anything about it. If he isn't held accountable, another nefarious wannabe leader will have the same ambitions knowing it can be done.”
