The president also highlighted several players from the Knicks' roster, placing particular emphasis on Finals MVP-caliber performer Brunson.
“Also, tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he added.
Brunson delivered another decisive fourth-quarter performance in Game 5, helping the Knicks erase a deficit and close out the series. The star guard has been central to the team's postseason success, leading a roster that was assembled through a series of trades, free-agent signings, and other roster changes over recent seasons.
Knicks end five-decade NBA championship drought
The Knicks completed a remarkable postseason run by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to win the NBA Finals in five games.
The victory ended one of the longest championship droughts in professional basketball and marked the franchise’s first Finals appearance since 1999.
The team overcame a 16-point deficit during the game and continued a postseason trend of rallying from double-digit deficits. It finished the playoffs with a dominant 16-3 record after entering the postseason as the Eastern Conference’s third seed.
The championship was the culmination of a roster rebuild that took shape over several years under team president Leon Rose.
After the final buzzer, Knicks owner Dolan addressed the team and supporters. “Sorry it took so long!” Dolan said as players celebrated with the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
