WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump ignited fresh controversy on Saturday, July 27, after demanding the prosecution of several high-profile public figures.

Trump accused former Vice President Kamala Harris, Oprah Winfrey, Al Sharpton, and pop icon Beyonce, claiming without evidence that they had violated campaign finance laws.

Donald Trump alleges Kamala Harris, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce broke election laws

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump alleged that the group had accepted or facilitated illegal political endorsements, suggesting that payments were exchanged in violation of federal election law.

“These ridiculous fees were incorrectly stated in the books and records. You are not allowed to pay for an endorsement. It is so totally illegal to do so. Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them?” Trump wrote. “All hell would break out! Kamala, and all of those that (sic) received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted!”

The vague and unsubstantiated post quickly drew backlash online, with political commentators, journalists, and critics labeling the accusations as absurd and politically motivated.

Critics slam Donald Trump’s claims as baseless, accuse him of distraction tactics

Former Washington Post columnist Philip Bump dismissed the claims as “very stupid,” reminding followers that “Trump was convicted of felonies related to his effort to influence the 2016 election by burying a story about his having slept with a porn star.”

This is very stupid but worth remembering that Trump was convicted of felonies related to his effort to influence the 2016 election by burying a story about his having slept with a porn star.

Meanwhile, journalist Yashar Ali noted that there is no public record of endorsement payments being made to or from Oprah Winfrey or Beyonce. “President Trump says he wants former Vice President Kamala Harris and various celebrities prosecuted for paying and receiving money for endorsements, but no such endorsement payments took place for Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce,” Ali posted on Bluesky.

Political strategist Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin took aim at what she called “flop sweat panic,” writing, “Trump just said that Beyonce, Oprah, and Al Sharpton should be prosecuted for endorsing Kamala Harris. To which I say: release the Epstein files, flop sweat panic man.”

The group Republicans Against Trump also weighed in, writing on X, “In another desperate attempt to distract from his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Trump calls for Kamala Harris to be prosecuted.”

The post referenced Trump’s mounting political and legal pressures amid ongoing calls for transparency around unsealed documents linked to Epstein’s trafficking operation.

Donald Trump sparks backlash after suggesting Kamala Harris should be prosecuted

The internet lit up with criticism, mockery, and speculation over Donald Trump’s explosive claims. Many saw the post as a transparent attempt to deflect from his own ongoing controversies.

“He is SOOOOO desperate to get people to stop talking about his disturbing connections to Jeffrey Epstein,” one user wrote.

“So he writes that in the middle of a $10 million dollar business trip, paid for by the American taxpayers,” another added.

“Wasn’t Elon literally handing out checks to people to register to vote?” a third user commented, referring to Elon Musk’s recent political engagement efforts.

“This guy literally had MILLIONS of unchecked dollars flowing through his meme coin(s)…projection is MAGA’s favorite distraction,” someone posted.

“Maybe @elonmusk can shed some light on the 2024 election expenses,” another user quipped.

“He’s scared and panicking,” one user wrote bluntly.
