WASHINGTON, DC: From bizarre name-calling to hurling serious allegations, President Donald Trump and his arch-enemy Kamala Harris have turned their feud into a political slugfest marked by years of sharp-tongued sparring.

Predictably, the rivalry between Harris and Trump has unleashed a storm of bogus accounts and outrageous rumors.

One such outlandish rumour, fueled by viral social media videos and posts, has now claimed that Harris has demanded Trump's arrest and impeachment, as well as the freezing of his financial accounts.

The rumour has spread across the internet like a wildfire. But it is true or just hyperbole, let’s unpack the full story below.

Claim: Kamala Harris demands Donald Trump's arrest and impeachment

The rumours of Kamala Harris demanding the president's arrest and impeachment quickly grabbed headlines after a reel by a Facebook page named USA Times went viral, highlighting her accusations.

"Breaking news: Kamala demands Trump's arrest,” read the reel caption. The video, shared on July 13, has already garnered more than 500,000 views at the time of writing.

The reel featured an AI-generated voice narrating Harris’ allegations, layered over a montage of dramatic clips featuring the staunch rivals.

“Breaking news. The game is over for Donald Trump. Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on television during a historic conference and made a statement that is shaking the halls of power in the United States,” the narration presented.

“On national television, she demanded Trump's immediate impeachment and the total freezing of his accounts. According to Kamala, this is not just about a controversial president, but about an insane and megalomaniac dictator who is putting the country's stability at risk. Harris accused Trump of governing exclusively for the rich while abandoning the working class and persecuting the poorest." The most shocking part came next.

“Kamala claimed to have explosive evidence of a crime committed by Trump — something so serious that, in her words, it would be the definitive checkmate to end his administration. She warned that if immediate action is not taken, Trump could make an irreversible mistake and lead the country to total collapse. "He must be removed immediately," she declared urgently. And the worst part, that evidence is already in the hands of the authorities,” it continued.

Fact check: No credible evidence to back the viral claim

The shocking claims made in the viral video are completely false, as there is no concrete evidence to back the rumour that Kamala Harris ever made a nationally televised speech at any “historic conference” demanding Trump’s arrest, removal from office, or the freezing of his assets.

According to the fact-checking site Snopes, a scan of search engines including Google and Bing turned up no credible news reports backing the trumped rumours.

News organizations all across the world would have hurried to cover the story if any such news had happened.

Instead, the rumor was just the most recent in a long line of viral videos that blend AI-generated voices with fabricated tales about famous politicians, celebrities, and even royal family associates — all crafted to chase clicks and cash in on ad revenue.

However, Harris did ask for Trump’s impeachment once, but it was in 2019 when she was serving as California senator before running for the Democratic nomination for the 2020 election.

“I believe Congress should take the steps towards impeachment. But I want to say this, because it doesn’t end there. I’m also a realist. ... I have also witnessed folks in the United States Congress, and in particular in the GOP, who have been presented with many reasons to push back against this president and they have not,” she said in a CNN-hosted town hall at that time.
