BEDMINSTER, NEW JERSEY: Former president Donald Trump was distracted by a packet of Cheerios during his press conference in Bedminster on August 15, reported The Independent.

Boxes of cereal, milk, fruit, pastries, bacon, and other grocery items were placed on both sides of the GOP presidential nominee as he addressed the reporters at his luxury New Jersey golf resort, slamming his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris on the economy.

Nearing the end of his speech, Trump went off course as a box of Cheerios caught his attention. "Wow school lunches up 65 per cent, how can a family afford this? But look at this over here, what a nice job..." he said before defecting to the Cheerios.

Trump wants to take Cheerios after accusing Kamala Harris' of breaking economy

"I think I'm going to take some of them back to my cottage and have a lot of fun," Trump said, turning to the grocery item placed on a table to his left. "Like the Cheerios, I haven't seen Cheerios in a long time, I'm gonna take them back with me."

Before his focus turned to the cereal packet, the billionaire real estate mogul ripped into Harris, accusing her of breaking the economy. He also cautioned that an impending 1929 Great Depression-like stock market crash would hit the US if his Democratic opponent won.

“Kamala Harris is a radical California liberal who broke the economy, broke the border and broke the world, frankly," Trump continued.

Harris, on the other hand, unveiled her economic plans to curb inflation, fix the housing market, and ban price gouging on groceries in her first economy-focused speech on Friday, August 16.

Trump ridiculed for being distracted by Cheerios at Bedminster presser

Trump's excitement seeing the Cheerios box during the Bedminster news conference sparked mockery online. Netizens pointed out that the ex-president has never gone grocery shopping in his entire life.

"Fool’s gold," a user wrote.

"Grandpa is off his meds again, again," another said.

"He is @GOP's laughingstock. Everybody who’s denying that is either blind and deaf or insane," added a third user.

"Seeing all those things must of brought back memories when he had to go to the grocery store and buy his food because he’s just a middle class guy," read a fourth response.

"Connects with the common man...who never sees Cherios," someone else quipped.

"I assume he's making some statement about inflation but all he sees is 'CHEERIOS YUMMY!'" an individual remarked.

"If Kamala Harris doesn't bring a box of Cheerios to the debate to munch on whenever Trump is speaking, I'll be very disappointed with her campaign staff," another tweeted.

"He hasn’t seen Cheerios in a long time because he’s never gone shopping in his entire life," read one remark.
