WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, on Monday, September 1, praised Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser for joining forces with his administration to deploy National Guard troops in Washington, DC.

He also highlighted a sharp drop in violent crime and presented the partnership as a blueprint for other cities struggling with public safety.

Trump touts DC cooperation as a model

“Wow! Mayor Muriel Bowser of DC has become very popular because she worked with me and my great people in bringing CRIME down to virtually NOTHING in DC,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president claimed Bowser’s popularity had jumped 25 percentage points since the partnership began on August 11, though he offered no polling source.

“Her statements and actions were positive, instead of others like [Illinois Gov JB] Pritzker, [Maryland Gov] Wes Moore, [California Gov Gavin] Newscum [Newsom], and the 5% approval rated Mayor of Chicago… Work with us to completely ELIMINATE it, which we have done in Washington, DC, NOW A CRIME FREE ZONE.”

Last week, Bowser confirmed sharp crime reductions, reporting an 87% drop in carjackings and a 45% decline in all violent crime since the federal support began. “We greatly appreciate the surge of officers that enhance what MPD has been able to do in this city,” Bowser said.

Trump sparks debate with crime remarks

Supporters flooded social media with praise and calls to action after Trump’s latest remarks on crime.

One X user wrote, "I keep telling you, federalization will be the answer. People will demand it. They want peace, safety, and order, and soon troops will be on their streets."

Another commented, "DC’s mayor is a remarkable leader, but Democrats’ policies are holding her back. Working with Trump, she’s making real progress while Democrats were just claiming you can’t stop crime by arresting criminals. She knows what works. Dark mode for those who need it."

A third wrote, "Make our country great, again……."

Another user added, "You are needed in Chicago Sir. Hope you are leaving soon!"

And one more wrote, "Love it. this is passion speaking and clearly all about crime, not politics, Respect President Trump."

National Guard patrols DC streets as Trump hails arrests

According to Attorney General Pam Bondi, 1,599 arrests have been made in DC since Trump’s initiative launched last month, with 165 illegal guns seized.

The National Guard has been patrolling, sometimes armed, alongside the Metropolitan Police Department and federal partners such as the FBI and US Park Police, though Guard members have not been making arrests directly.

Trump said he is willing to send troops to other urban centers if governors agree. “Wouldn’t it be nice to say that about Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and even the Crime Drenched City of Baltimore???” he wrote, adding, “It can happen, and it can happen FAST! Work with us!!!”

He told The Post he would deploy Guard members to New York only if Gov Kathy Hochul consented: “I’d love to do it if she’d like. I get along with Kathy. If she’d like to do that, I would do it… I want to make this, like, friendly.”

The rare Trump-Bowser cooperation comes just months after his administration dismantled Black Lives Matter Plaza near the White House in March.

Trump ended his post with a warning: “Congratulations to Mayor Muriel Bowser, but don’t go Woke on us. DC is a GIANT VICTORY that never has to end!!!”
