WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump issued a pair of striking Truth Social posts after the Supreme Court handed down its closely watched rulings, celebrating what he called a landmark victory for presidential authority while simultaneously criticizing the Court's birthright citizenship decision.

Trump argued the justices restored powers to the presidency that had been curtailed for decades, even as he vowed to continue challenging the birthright citizenship ruling in future litigation. In a separate post, he sarcastically congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping and China on what he described as a "massive Birthright Citizenship WIN."

Trump celebrates presidential authority victory

Trump described the Court's decision involving presidential authority as the most consequential ruling issued by the justices, saying it effectively overturned decades of precedent that had limited executive power.

He argued the ruling returned significant authority to the presidency after what he characterized as years of judicial restrictions dating back to the Franklin D. Roosevelt era. Trump called it "an honor" to be the sitting president who secured the decision, adding that Republicans had been treated "very fairly" by the Supreme Court.

The president also referenced other favorable rulings issued by the Court, portraying the decisions as a broader constitutional victory for his administration and executive authority.

China remark targets citizenship ruling

While celebrating the executive power ruling, Trump sharply criticized the Court's separate birthright citizenship decision.

"I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!" Trump wrote, using the post to argue that the ruling benefits foreign nationals whose children are born in the United States.

Trump acknowledged that birthright citizenship was one area where his administration did not prevail, writing that it was a "loss" that his administration would continue working to address through future legal proceedings.

Trump's remark after Supreme Court ruling

The president's comments came after the Supreme Court declined to adopt his administration's interpretation of the Citizenship Clause, leaving his executive order on birthright citizenship blocked while allowing the broader legal challenge to continue.

Trump indicated that his administration has no plans to abandon the issue, saying the birthright citizenship question would be revisited in future court cases.

By pairing praise for the Court's executive power ruling with criticism of its immigration decision, Trump sought to frame the day's opinions as a major constitutional victory overall while making clear that the fight over birthright citizenship remains unfinished. His response signals that executive authority and immigration policy will remain central themes of his administration's legal agenda.
