Trump hits back at claim he is copying Barack Obama’s ‘stupid’ plan to reach nuclear deal with Iran

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump burst into anger after a Democratic senator claimed that he appeared to be copying former President Barack Obama’s 2015 plan to negotiate a lasting peace deal with Iran.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware appeared on Fox News on Sunday, June 29, where he said, as per the Daily Beast, that the Trump administration should give Congress a “full intelligence picture” of what exactly happened during America’s attack on Tehran.

He also further stated "that President Trump by press accounts is now moving toward negotiation and offering Iran a deal that looks somewhat similar to the Iran deal that was offered by Obama: tens of billions of dollars of incentives and reduced sanctions in exchange for abandoning their nuclear program.”
But Trump was not happy with Coons’ words.

He posted on Truth Social, “Tell phony Democrat Senator Chris Coons that I am not offering Iran ANYTHING.”

“Unlike Obama, who paid them $Billions under the stupid ‘road to a Nuclear Weapon JCPOA (which would now be expired!), nor am I even talking to them since we totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities,” the Republican leader added.
Trump was referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was reached in July 2015 between Iran and the multilateral group of nations called the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States).

As per the US Department of State, it was made to “to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful.”
However, three years later, Trump pulled out from the deal in 2018.
Trump’s Iran attack cannot be called ‘total damage’ on its nuke sites
But after rejoining the Oval office in 2025, the commander-in-chief has been trying to negotiate a new nuclear agreement with Iran.
Amid this, Israel and Iran went into a war, and the US bombed three nuke sites in Tehran.

Though Trump claimed to have “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program, Rafael Mariano Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said that “one cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing there,” as per CBS News.
“We are not there making any military evaluations, first of all, but, out of the logic of our conversation, it is clear that there has been severe damage, but it's not total damage,” he added.
Grossi also mentioned that “Iran has the capacities there; industrial and technological capacities. So if they so wish, they will be able to start doing this again.”
