WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, during remarks at the South Court Auditorium on Tuesday, August 5, positioned Vice President JD Vance as the top contender to champion the MAGA platform in the 2028 presidential contest.

Trump made the remarks while signing an executive order establishing a task force for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, responding to a pointed question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.

Trump offered a glimpse into the future of the Republican Party, suggesting that Vice President JD Vance would be the frontrunner to carry the Make America Great Again (MAGA) banner into the 2028 presidential election.

“You could clear the entire Republican field right now,” Doocy remarked, referencing Trump's recent admission that he won’t seek a third term. “Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?”

Trump didn’t hesitate to acknowledge the Ohio senator-turned-vice president, saying, “Well, I think most likely. In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And I think Marco (Rubio) is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form.”

While Trump clarified that it’s “too early” to make predictions about 2028, he offered praise for both Vance and other administration figures.

“I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here. So it's too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job. And he would be probably favored at this point,” he added.

JD Vance and Marco Rubio are both considered potential candidates for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. Though both were previously outspoken critics of Trump, with Rubio notably running against him in the 2016 GOP primaries.

Trump noted that others in his Cabinet could also carry forward the MAGA agenda. While the Constitution bars a third presidential term, he and some allies have still floated the idea.

Marco Rubio publicly backs JD Vance, shrugs off his own 2028 presidential ambitions

In a Fox News Channel interview with Lara Trump that aired last month on 'My View with Lara Trump', Rubio shut down any rumors of his presidential ambitions and instead offered a clear endorsement of Vance.

“I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio said.

He also took the opportunity to commend Vance’s work as vice president, describing him as a strong and effective partner in the Trump administration. Rubio added that he remains content with his current position in President Trump’s Cabinet.

Amid growing speculation about a 2028 presidential bid, Vance has kept his response restrained. During an appearance on Fox & Friends in April, he reiterated that his priority remains fulfilling his current duties.

“When we get to that point, I’ll talk to the president. We’ll figure out what we want to do,” Vance said, sidestepping questions about his future political ambitions.

President Trump has sparked intense online buzz after floating the idea that JD Vance is “most likely” his political heir apparent, potentially alongside Marco Rubio. The remark, delivered during a recent interview, set off a flurry of speculation and support across social media, especially from conservatives envisioning a future post-Trump Republican ticket.

Many users rallied behind the idea, calling it a formidable political duo.

“That would be a dream team. I would 100% support that ticket,” one wrote.

“WE NEED PEOPLE WITH LEVEL HEADS. BOTH VANCE AND RUBIO WOULD BE A PERFECT FIT! USA STRONG AND PROUD,” another added.

“JD's personability and domestic policy ideology with Marco's work ethic and foreign policy knowledge is a great combo,” one user shared.

“That would be a great ticket, can’t lie,” added another.

For some, the pairing felt like political fate. “This is my Roman Empire. Always has been,” one user mused.

“That is what I have on my bingo card for 2028! When I found out that Rubio and Vance are good friends, that solidified it for me!! And both of them are doing awesome jobs,” one commented.

A user said, "Get it done."

“Trump-Vance-Rubio 2028 ticket would be epic,” another user chimed in, suggesting a three-headed MAGA future.
