DES MOINES, IOWA: President Donald Trump’s disdain for hydrogen-powered cars reached a new bizarre level when he argued he’s not a fan because, in his words, “when they blow up, they don’t ever find the body.”

The 79-year-old president made the outlandish claims as he addressed a huge crowd at a Des Moines rally on Thursday, June 3, just hours after the House passed his much-hyped "big, beautiful bill."

Donald Trump reveals why he doesn’t like hydrogen cars

As the commander-in-chief predictably took a victory lap at the rally, he falsely boasted that he had scrapped a non-existent federal policy that would have forced Americans to switch entirely to electric cars in just a few years.

“I ended the green new scam and terminated [unintelligible]. This is insane, the electric vehicle mandate, where everybody had to have a car that happened to be all-electric in the next few short years,” Trump claimed.

“The mandate, some people wanna have gasoline-powered, some people wanna have hybrids. Maybe even some day hydrogen. Right now, I don’t like it because when they blow up, they don’t ever find the body. They find the body about five blocks away. That does not sound promising to me,” he further stated.

This is not the first time that Donald Trump has made a bizarre claim about exploding “hydrogen cars.”

In October 2024, the president was talking about electric cars while headlining Turning Point USA’s rally in Las Vegas when he stopped former professional racer Danica Patrick in the crowd.

Upon spotting Patrick, he veered off his address to explain the supposed dangers of “hydrogen cars” exploding.

“And they are great. They’re great, but for a certain group of people, we want to have gasoline-propelled cars. We want to have hybrids, which are good. Hybrids are good — a combination of both. We want to have everything,” the commander-in-chief stated.

“Hydrogen, I don’t know about it. I think Danica would know about hydrogen. Hydrogen cars, Danica, they say they’re really good — except there’s one problem. When there’s a mishap, when it explodes a little bit, they cannot even recognize you; so we never wanna do that. That’s too much. Hydrogen cars — I think we’ll take a pass on hydrogen,” he added.

Donald Trump imagines Marjorie Taylor Greene dying in hydrogen car wreck

While mishaps with hydrogen-powered cars are vanishingly rare, Donald Trump has stubbornly painted them as ticking time bombs on wheels, insisting they’re prone to dangerous accidents.

In another rally, Trump imagined Georgia Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene to explain his view of what supposedly happens to cars running on hydrogen fuel cells.

“You’re not recognizable if something goes wrong, if something goes wrong, and Marjorie Taylor Greene with that beautiful blonde hair is driving down the highway in a hydrogen car, and the problem with the hydrogen car, if something goes wrong, it’s like the atom bomb went off. You’re not recognizable,” he told the crowd in an Atlanta rally in October 2024.

“But they say, ‘We think we have it under control.’ That’s not good enough. They’ll say, ‘We thought it was Marjorie Taylor Greene riding down the middle of the turnpike, but she’s no longer recognizable. We found some of her,’” he continued.

Trump laughed and said, “We love her,” before telling her to stand up to be acknowledged by the crowd.

Internet mocks Donald Trump over his bizarre claims about Hydrogen car

Donald Trump’s bizarre claims about hydrogen-powered cars have sparked a fierce mockery from internet users.

One said, “You can't make this up. Take a physics class. Good lord,” and another said, “Trump’s worried about hydrogen cars 'blowing up' and scattering bodies, but not about climate collapse, poisoned water, or uninsured Americans. Priorities.”

“It’s only a matter of time before he calls it a ‘hydrogen bomb’ then goes off on a tangent about ‘the nuclear’ and his MIT uncle,” a person mocked.

Another wrote, "People voted for the dumbest man in America," whereas someone else said, “Trump is a god damn expert on EVERYTHING. Isn't he?”

“His brain is a hamster wheel that just jumped the tracks,” one more quipped and an individual remarked, “Can anyone figure out what movie he watched to come up with this?”
