WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald J. Trump on Monday, April 13, outlined plans for a large-scale combat sports event on the White House grounds, confirming that a temporary arena will be constructed on the South Lawn as part of the “America250” celebrations.

The event, titled “UFC Freedom 250,” is scheduled for June 14, 2026, coinciding with Flag Day and the President’s 80th birthday.

Speaking to reporters outside the Oval Office, Trump said preparations are underway to transform part of the White House complex into a venue capable of hosting a live audience.

The plan includes building a 4,500-seat arena directly on the South Lawn, marking the first time a professional mixed martial arts event would be held at the presidential residence.

The event is being organized in coordination with UFC leadership, including CEO Dana White, who has confirmed that planning has been ongoing for several months.

South Lawn arena meets Ellipse fan fest

According to the President, the South Lawn arena will serve as the central stage for the fight card, while a much larger viewing setup is planned at the Ellipse, located just south of the White House.

Officials expect the Ellipse area to accommodate tens of thousands of spectators, with large screens and staging infrastructure being installed to broadcast the event live.

“They’re building stages, and we’re going to have massive screens of the fight,” Trump said, describing the scale of the public viewing arrangements.

Estimates for attendance at the Ellipse range from 50,000 to 100,000 people, though final capacity will depend on security and logistical planning.

UFC officials have indicated that the temporary construction on the South Lawn will require restoration work following the event.

Dana White previously noted that replacing the lawn after dismantling the arena could involve high costs.

To enhance production quality, the UFC is also planning a specialized lighting and camera setup, including an overhead structure designed to optimize visibility for both attendees and broadcast audiences.

Elite card headlines historic 250th anniversary

The fight card for “UFC Freedom 250” is expected to feature several high-profile athletes.

Preliminary announcements indicate that Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje are slated to headline the event in a lightweight bout. Other fighters, including Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane, are also expected to appear on the card.

UFC officials have described the lineup as one of the most prominent in recent years, with a mix of international and American fighters participating.

Final matchups and scheduling details are expected to be confirmed closer to the event date.

The June 14 timing places the event within the broader “Salute to America 250” initiative, a year-long series of programs marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Additional activities tied to the fight weekend are expected, including fan engagement events and ceremonial programming in Washington, DC.

White House transforms into ‘combat arena’

The decision to host a professional sporting event at the White House has drawn attention from both supporters and critics.

Some have raised questions about the use of the presidential residence for large-scale entertainment programming, while the administration has framed the event as part of a national celebration.

Dana White confirmed that the event is proceeding as planned, with coordination between federal agencies and event organizers ongoing.

Security, crowd management, and infrastructure logistics are expected to be key focus areas in the coming weeks.

Officials also indicated that a portion of the tickets for the South Lawn arena will be allocated to members of the military, with additional access for the public through the Ellipse viewing area.

Distribution details have not yet been finalized.
