PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President Donald Trump has praised Elon Musk for offering to personally cover the salaries of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers, many of whom have gone without pay during the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

Calling the proposal a positive move, Trump’s remarks come as airport disruptions continue to grow across the country.

Regarding Elon Musk’s offer to pay TSA workers during the Department of Homeland Security shutdown, a reporter questioned whether the two had discussed the idea. "Elon Musk has offered to pay TSA workers during this DHS shutdown. Is this something that you've been speaking to him about?"

Trump responded positively, saying, “Yeah, I’d love it. I think it’s great. Let him do that.” His comment came as many TSA employees continue working without pay amid the funding stalemate.

Expanding on his response, Trump praised the proposal and expressed support for those working during the crisis. He also thanked immigration authorities, saying they remained committed to their duties despite the challenges.

"I think it's great. Let it do that. And I want to thank ICE because they said so, so strongly they'll do great."

At the same time, Trump voiced frustration with Democrats over the ongoing situation, warning that stronger measures could be taken if needed. He suggested, "And if that's not enough, I'll bring in the National Guard. We're not going to have the Democrats destroy our country. These people are the most destructive sick people.”

The funding gap at the Department of Homeland Security started in mid-February after Congress failed to agree on a spending bill. The main disagreement was about immigration policies and oversight of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Democrats wanted to fund the Transportation Security Administration separately, but Republicans blocked the idea, saying all funding should be passed together.

Because of this, TSA workers have gone weeks without pay. This has led to staff shortages and long lines at airports in cities like Atlanta, Houston, and New York. Some airports have even told travelers to arrive much earlier than usual, and officials say more workers are calling out of work.

Amid this situation, Elon Musk posted on X that he would be willing to pay TSA workers during the shutdown, saying it is “negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country."

Senator John Fetterman called Musk’s offer “incredibly generous” and criticized Congress for letting the situation get this bad. He said, "TSA agents across the country are relying on food pantries and community donations just to get by."

Fetterman also pointed out that he was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans to fully fund DHS and ensure workers get paid. His response stands out because he has recently disagreed with his party on some immigration and DHS-related issues.
