WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has reportedly told aides that his plans to reshape Washington, DC will stand as a defining part of his legacy. According to journalist Michael Wolff, Trump believes his efforts to transform the US capital will be remembered for a century and outweigh traditional policy achievements.

The remarks were detailed in Wolff’s HOWL: Tales of Our Time series, where Trump is said to have reflected on how his second term may be judged by history. In private conversations, he reportedly downplayed several policy accomplishments, instead focusing on large-scale construction projects as the work that would define his presidency.

"Everything is forgotten,” Trump, 80, reportedly told a caller after being presented with a list of accomplishments.

According to Wolff, Trump then pointed to his plans for the nation’s capital as the achievement he believes will define his presidency.

“What I'm going to do with this city will be remembered for a hundred years,” Trump reportedly said.

Wolff also claimed Trump reflected on his years in New York real estate, saying his influence helped shape the city’s modern identity. He reportedly added, “Washington needs my monuments."

Wolff said Trump spoke proudly about his development career, arguing that New York would not have had the same “power and luxury” without his contributions. The comments were presented as part of Trump’s broader focus on architecture, design, and large-scale urban projects.

White house advances major washington construction projects

The Trump administration has moved forward with several high-profile construction and renovation efforts across Washington, DC.

One of the most prominent is the demolition of the White House East Wing to make way for a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom intended for official events and state functions.

The White House has also overseen a $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The project involved changes to its appearance, though reports later noted algae growth following the updates.

Plans for america 250 celebrations and ceremonial arch

Additional proposals include a 250-foot ceremonial arch planned for America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The structure is part of a wider push for landmark-style additions across the capital.

Neither the White House nor Trump has publicly commented on the specific remarks attributed to him by Wolff. The account appears in the journalist’s HOWL: Tales of Our Time series, which draws on conversations with sources familiar with Trump and his inner circle.
