WASHINGTON, D.C.: Moments after slamming Pope Leo XIV and calling him "weak" and "terrible," President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ.

Trump, in a blistering Truth Social rant, called the Pope someone who is "weak" on crime and "terrible" on foreign policy, after the latter criticized the President for saying he will "wipe out" the Iranian civilization.

Trump shares AI-generated image depicting himself as Jesus

The AI-image depicts President Trump as Jesus, donning a robe and reinvigorating a sick man with his healing hand while a nurse looks on and an American Eagle soars above.

The image also shows Trump surrounded by divine light and flanked by angelic or soldier-like figures. Fighter jets are seen flying across the sky, while fireworks burst, suggesting military strength and celebration.

The Statue of Liberty is also included in the distant background, emphasising American identity. The scene resembled the biblical account of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.

Trump says he is ‘not a fan’ of Pope Leo XIV

The image was shared 40 minutes after Trump said that he was "not a fan" of Pope Leo XIV and called him out for his alleged "weakness" on handling crime and foreign policy.

Talking to reporters on Sunday, April 12, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland,  "I'm not a big fan of Pope Leo. He's a very liberal person, and he's a man that doesn't believe in stopping crime.”

Trump even accused the Pope of “toying with a country that wants a nuclear weapon."

The President further suggested that Pope should focus on spiritual duties rather than making political commentaries, particularly involving the US and foreign policy.

Trump also alleged that the Pope was overly sympathetic to what he called “Radical Left,” opposing US action in Venezuela and Iran and undermining his presidency.

The President further said that Pope Leo should not forget that he is the Pontiff because of Trump’s presidency.

"I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela. I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected to do," Trump wrote opposing Pope Leo.

"If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican," he claimed.

Trump faces backlash over AI-generated image

Social media users were left furious of Trump's post, with many taking to X to condemn The President's move.

One user wrote, "it genuinely baffles me how his christian supporters still support him"

Another added, "And there is it.  Trump as Jesus.  This is blasphemy."

A third user said, "i don’t understand how any christian could not be mad about this like this has to be some sort of sin. it most definitely is against the second commandment in the jewish interpretation of it."

While a fourth commented, "The fact that Donald Trump posts AI generated art depicting himself as Jesus Christ tells you a lot about his mental state and character"

At the time of writing, the White House has not issued any statement regarding the AI-generated image.
