WASHINGTON, DC: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told Dr Phil McGraw during an interview on Tuesday, August 27, that he could have won California "If Jesus Christ came down and was the vote counter."

During an hour-long interview with Dr Phil, Trump talked about surviving the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, and also commented on the long odds he had to survive, Raw Story reported.

Donald Trump says he could win California if Jesus was 'vote counter'

Donald Trump said during the interview, "If Jesus Christ came down and was the vote counter, I would win California, OK? In other words, if we had an honest vote counter, a really honest vote counter—I do great with Hispanics, great, I mean at a level no Republican has ever done—but if we had an honest vote counter, I would win California."

Dr Phil replied after hearing Trump's statement, "You think so?" to which Trump said, "Oh I think so. I see it. I go around California, they have Trump's signs all over the place...It’s a very dishonest [state], everything is mail-in. They send out 38 million ballots, I think it is."

He added, "Any time you have a mail-in ballot, you’re going to have massive fraud."

California has become a reliably Democratic stronghold as the state last voted for a Republican president in 1988. In the 2020 election, President Joe Biden reportedly won with around 64% of the vote.

Trump also stated that mail-in voting shouldn't be allowed. He said, "It shouldn't be allowed. It's a whole different mindset. Republicans like to go in there Tuesday and vote. And that's been for, you know, a long time, many years, decades, decades. It's a custom almost. It's a family custom. It's a beautiful thing."

Dr Phil questions Donald Trump on comments about Christians in July

During the interview, Dr Phil asked the GOP candidate about his comments at a gathering of Christians in July where he said that they wouldn’t "have to vote again" after 2024, according to the Daily Beast.

Trump said he wasn’t implying that he would put an end to elections. He said, "It doesn’t mean we’re not going to have elections. You’re going to have elections. But you have to vote this time because we have to win."

He added, "Christians, for whatever reason, don’t vote very much—you know, proportionately. NRA people, and people that feel very strongly about the Second Amendment—they’re not voters. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s a rebellious streak."

Dr Phil asked, "So, you didn’t mean, ‘Vote me in once ‘cause I ain’t never leaving?’ You’re meaning, ‘This is an important one. Vote this time?’" to which Trump replied, "Of course, that’s what I meant," adding that "everybody" knew what he meant at the time.

Donald Trump slammed for claiming he could win California if Jesus was 'vote counter'

Several internet users slammed Donald Trump after he told Dr Phil that he could have won California, "if Jesus Christ came down and was the vote counter."

Readers took to the comments section of the Raw Story article to express their views on the same.

One reader wrote, "I’ve lived in California most of my life and have never received more than one ballot to vote. His lies are just so ridiculous," while another added, "Signs don't vote, dips***. And one person certainly doesn't get 20 votes for Trump just because they're deranged enough to have 20 Trump signs."

One person stated, "If white Santa was the vote counter, you'd have been sent off to Gitmo, with one lump of coal. Years ago," while another wrote, "I'm not a religious freak, but I do believe in God. When we were going up there was One Bible verse ALL learned. The 23 Psalms. I would LOVE to ask Trump to quote the 23 psalms or even the Lord's prayer."

One individual commented, "I absolutely cannot wait for Kamala to nail his a** to a cross at the debate," while another remarked, "Trump didn't have a problem with mail ballots when he won. Since he lost he want to change the whole voting system. And if we by the popular vote, Trump would have NEVER been in the WH."

One reader added, "This is what happens when you try to treat Alzheimer's with crack."

One X user sarcastically wrote, BREAKING NEWS: Trump accuses Jesus of not being able to count," while another said, "If Jesus will count the votes and still loses the votes he will call it rigged!"

One person tweeted, "He's such an antichrist. But his subjects don't see it." Another added, "Full crazypants. Trump has lost the last two general elections in California by a total of EIGHT MILLION VOTES."
