WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., during his remarks at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, July 24. Addressing the crowd, Trump criticized the congresswoman over her past comments, financial disclosures and political positions, telling attendees, “She oughta get the hell out of our country!”

Trump returned to the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner three months after the annual event was disrupted following an incident involving a gunman. The dinner, originally scheduled for April, was postponed and later held at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, DC.

Trump mocks Ilhan Omar over viral World War II gaffe

During his speech, Trump referenced a viral clip in which Omar appeared to mistakenly refer to World War II as “World War 11” while speaking at an event.

“A video has surfaced recently of Ilhan giving a speech, referring to World War II as World War 11,” Trump said.

“And they asked her about that, and she still thought she got it right. But I'm not surprised, because she's a low IQ person, and she's also a very dishonest person, and she oughta get the hell out of our country!”

Trump also added, “She shouldn't be here. She shouldn't be in our country.”

He further claimed Omar refers to someone as “husband number one,” continuing his criticism of her personal life.

Trump also addressed scrutiny surrounding Omar’s financial disclosures, claiming she was “reportedly being investigated for fraud” and referencing changes made to her filings.

“I was shocked to see that she was worth much more than $30 million,” Trump said. “And then when the press got on her, she revised it slightly downward to less than $18,000.”

The remarks came while Trump was discussing broader political issues, including what he described as problems caused by Democratic-led policies in California.

Omar has pushed back against criticism

Omar has previously rejected Trump’s attacks and said she believes she has been singled out politically. In a May interview with TMZ, she accused the Trump administration of being made up of people who are “racists” and “bigoted.”

Trump and Omar have been political opponents for years, with the president repeatedly criticizing her views on immigration, foreign policy and her role in Congress.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech mixed comedy with political commentary, as Trump also took aim at Democrats, the media and other political rivals during his appearance.
