FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA: Donald Trump’s lawyers have reportedly expressed their concern as well as argued against a new proposed gag order targeting their client as they believe it will prove problematic for him during the upcoming presidential debate.

Special counsel Jack Smith requested the federal judge Aileen Cannon to issue a decree, prohibiting Trump from making allegations against the FBI officials, who raided his property in Florida in August 2022, as reported by Politico.

“These deceptive and inflammatory claims expose the law enforcement professionals who are involved in this case to unjustified and unacceptable risks: they invite the sort of threats and harassment that have occurred when other participants in legal proceedings against Trump have been targeted by his invective,” the plea noted.

But on Monday, June 24, the Republican leader’s defense lawyer Todd Blanche said during a court hearing that if the judge approved the order and his client made any statement, violating it during the debate, prosecutors “can get an arrest warrant and, if signed, they can arrest him,” Politico reports.

This came after an earlier statement from the GOP presumptive presidential nominee’s legal team stated, “President Trump’s position is that the requested modification is a blatant violation of the First Amendment rights of President Trump and the American People, which would in effect allow President Trump’s political opponent to regulate his campaign communications to voters across the country.”
