WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump reignited concerns over his mental health following his interview with 'Meet the Press' host Kristen Welker that aired on NBC News on Sunday, May 4, reported Raw Story.

The president appeared to prevaricate and gave bizarre answers to many questions - leading many to question his ability to perform his duties as president of the US.

Last month, the 78-year-old had boasted about acing a cognitive test as part of his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, telling reporters, "I got every answer right," according to the Independent.

Mental health played a major role in the political decline of Trump's predecessor in the Oval Office, 82-year-old Joe Biden, who was forced to step down from the 2024 presidential race after his dismal performance in a debate against Trump last year.

Trump himself has faced scrutiny over his mental health as his gaffes and bizarre answers to interview questions have raised eyebrows.

Donald Trump's interview with Kristen Welker raises questions about his mental ability

Trump and Welker discussed a wide range of subjects during the interview, which took place days after the commander-in-chief completed his first 100 days in office for the second term.

The subjects covered included economic issues such as inflation, Trump’s tariffs, and cryptocurrency, as well as whether the controversial business tycoon was himself profiting from the presidency.

The subject of immigration was brought up, along with border crossings, deportations, and questions about due process. The controversial functioning of the Department of Government Efficiency and other budget issues were also discussed.

Trump triggered outrage with his response to seemingly obvious questions, such as "Your secretary of state says everyone who's here, citizens and noncitizens, deserves due process... Do you agree?"

"I don't know... I'm not, I'm not a lawyer. I don't know," he stated.

The POTUS also described the current state of the economy as, "I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy."

Internet blasts Donald Trump over NBC News' 'Meet the Press' interview

Netizens reacting to Trump's 'Meet the Press' interview slammed him on social media platform X. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"He is a horrible, pathetic human being. He’s everything you teach your children NOT to be," wrote former Republican lawmaker Joe Walsh.

"Trump's new Meet the Press interview was just the latest illustration that dude's brain is gone," shared another.

"I wonder how many interviews filled with “I don’t know”, “You have to talk to the lawyers”, “That’s not what my people told me”, followed by a litany of wack-a-doodle claims, before the people around him start limiting his interview schedule?" wondered a third.

"It's increasingly clear that he is not mentally competent to be President," noted a fourth.

"Trump is a danger to us all! He's mentally deficient, morally bankrupt, incapable of telling the truth, and narcissistic beyond repair!" exclaimed a fifth.
