Trump’s niece Mary slams his ‘awful’ remarks targeting Iran, blasts aides for failing to stop him
WASHINGTON, DC: After President Donald Trump shook up Washington with an expletive-laced ultimatum to Iran on Easter Sunday, one of the sharpest rebukes came from inside the family.
Trump threatened strikes on Iran’s power plants and bridges if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy shipments.
Mary Trump slams her uncle
The President didn’t hold back in his Truth Social post. "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****n’ Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP," he wrote.
The message ricocheted across Capitol Hill within hours. Critics warned that the rhetoric could inflame tensions and raise uncomfortable questions about whether the U.S. was signaling potential strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Among those sounding the alarm was the President's estranged niece, Mary Trump.
"It's not that Donald sent this as awful as it is; it's that nobody felt they could stop him or, worse, nobody thought they should," she wrote on X, sharing a screenshot of the post.

Mixed reactions to Trump's post
The reaction from Capitol Hill was rather divided.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blasted the post, accusing the President of “ranting like an unhinged madman on social media” as Americans “head off to church and celebrate with friends and family.” He added that Trump was “threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies.”
Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media.

He’s threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies.
This is who he is, but this is not who we… https://t.co/UixJXNqykI
Sen. Bernie Sanders called the message “the ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual” and urged Congress to act to end the war.
One month after starting the war in Iran, this is the statement of the President of the United States on Easter Sunday.

On the other side, Republican allies largely avoided focusing on the language itself.
Sen. Lindsey Graham was impressed with the apparent seriousness of the threat. "He is deadly serious when it comes to his ultimatum to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face a massive military response against vital infrastructure," he wrote.
As I have been saying for the last several days, President Trump is intent on restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Right-wing activist Laura Loomer was even more blunt. "This is what I voted for. Bomb jihadis back to the Stone Age where their mentality permanently lives. Trump said he’s going to bomb their infrastructure in Iran, and then he said 'Praise be to Allah'. On Easter. Amazing. Just amazing. Strategic bombing wins wars."

Mary Trump's past criticism
Mary Trump has been a frequent critic of her uncle’s policy decisions. She recently slammed the president over his stance on birthright citizenship.
In a recent post, she pointed to family history to make her case. Mary invoked Trump’s father, Frederick Christ Trump, who was born in New York City to German immigrant parents.
"My grandfather was an anchor baby. It turns out the best case against birthright citizenship is Donald," she wrote.

That remark landed as the Supreme Court weighed arguments on the issue, which has been a core policy of Trump’s second-term agenda. The President has pushed to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to parents who are in the country illegally or temporarily.
