KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: The joyous atmosphere of the Kansas City Chiefs championship parade celebrating their Super Bowl victory turned to chaos after multiple people were reportedly shot in Missouri.

The incident unfolded at the Union Station on Wednesday, February 14, at around 2 pm leaving the celebrants shocked, according to Daily Mail.

How many people were shot at the Super Bowl parade? 

According to fire officials, at least one person was shot dead and 15 others were injured during the shooting.

Two armed people were detained following the incident which the Kansas City Department described as a "fluid situation."

"Shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck," confirmed the Kansas City police.

"We took two armed people into custody for more investigation," officials said on the social media platform X.

As per CBS, between 12 and 15 gunshots were heard from the parade area.



 

Several security officials were rushed into the Union Station while panicked fans scattered.

Officials set up child reunification stations for children separated from their parents amid shooting

Law enforcement authorities updated that several children were separated from their parents amidst the commotion, prompting officials to establish child reunification stations.

The stations were located inside the main entrance and 2301 of Union Station.

"We still have several needing reunification. Contact the officer nearest you for reunification information,” read the police's statement on X.

Images captured in the aftermath of the shooting showed wounded fans being injured and assisted away from the scene.

Officials urged fans to vacate the area swiftly and around 100 police vehicles reportedly rushed to the area in the aftermath of the shooting.

Around two hours after the deadly shooting, Kansas City PD Chief Stacey Graves said at a press conference that law enforcement authorities sprung into action and immediately apprehended the shooter.

"Officers ran towards danger, and we thank them for that," said Graves.

"I'm angry at what happened today. People should expect a safe environment," she added and noted that over 800 officers were stationed at the parade.

Chiefs fans celebrated the team's third Super Bowl title won on Sunday, February 11, with a grand parade.

Securing a historic win, the team won 25-22 in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers.

As the streets were flooded with fans celebrating the triumphant team's victory at the parade, players including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes were seen standing up on top of double-decker buses.
