Two killed and eight injured in violent shooting at downtown Los Angeles New Year's Eve party

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A violent shooting at a New Year's Eve gathering in downtown Los Angeles left two people dead and eight others hospitalized, as per the Los Angeles Police Department. 

According to the authorities, gunfire broke out at 12.53 am, with police being reported about the incident at around 1 am on Monday, January 1. The shooting supposedly took place at a warehouse located on the 2300 block of Porter Street where an underground party was being held, as reportedly by NBC News



 

A man and woman in their 20s died in the downtown LA shooting

Officers responding to the scene heard several gunshots coming from the area near Porter Street and Santa Fe Avenue. The authorities even found several people lying on the street and sidewalk of Porter Street, between Santa Fe and Mateo Streets. 

"That's where they saw a large crowd of people running away in different directions," said the LA officials, as per KTLA 5

Los Angeles Police Department Capt Ryan Whiteman noted, "Arriving officers saw a large group of people in the street in front of the location and heard what they believed to be gunfire." He added, "At this time, we have two confirmed fatalities."

The victims were said to have been a male and a female who were in their 20s. Eight others were taken to local medical centers in unknown condition following the incident.

No suspects have been named in the downtown LA shooting

The shooting is still in "investigative mode" and no suspect information is available, according to Whiteman. As of now, the authorities are looking for witnesses and footage to help with the case.

It's unclear how many people were present at the gathering at the time of the shooting.

Furthermore, it's unknown whether any permissions were required to host the event at that location. LAPD noted, "During the party, a dispute occurred between unknown people, resulting in shots being fired."
