FOND DU LAC, WISCONSIN: Wisconsin authorities discovered Ashley Ann Calo slumped over her steering wheel in her crashed car, with her 3-year-old child moving around in the backseat.

As per reports from Wbay.com, WeAreGreenbay.com, and NBC26, the Fond du Lac Police Department has stated that they are treating the death as a homicide and are actively investigating the case.

On Wednesday, February 14, Annaka Winter Trudell was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide. She is now behind bars at the Fond du Lac County jail, the local outlets reported.

An unidentified 21-year-old man has also been arrested, charged with harboring or aiding a felon, per the outlets.

When were the authorities informed about the incident?

In response to a report of a single-car crash shortly before 6:30 pm on February 13, authorities determined that Calo had collided with landscaping bricks, resulting in her car landing atop nearby shrubbery, according to reports from Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

Friends wish for Ashley Ann Calo to be remembered not for the tragic circumstances of her passing but rather for the incredible personality she possessed.

“I wish somebody was there, somebody. That the police got there faster, that she survived this,” Jason Smith, Calo’s friend, said. “For sure, she was stabbed twice, once in the stomach and once in the neck.”

“Knowing Ashley she put everything she had into that final moment,” Smith said. “I can’t imagine the fear she was facing because she probably knew she was going to die.”

Calo was rushed to hospital

First responders initiated life-saving efforts at the scene, and Calo was swiftly transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to reports from Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

As of Thursday, police were still awaiting the Fond du Lac Medical Examiner’s Office to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, according to reports from the three outlets.

The victim's child was unharmed

The toddler, identified as Calo’s son by WeAreGreenbay.com, was reported unharmed, as stated by both Wbay.com and WeAreGreenbay.com.

Calo’s friend, Hollyann Zastrow, who assisted in establishing a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support the woman’s 3-year-old boy, expressed on the fundraising page that her passing marked a tragic conclusion to the life of a woman who “was the type of person that would be there for you no matter what” and who “was the greatest friend one could ask for."

“She loved her son more than anything in this world,” Zastrow said in the post. “She had a smile that could brighten up even the darkest room.”
