PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: The billionaire Winklevoss twins have made a significant donation to former President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, and the donation will be provided in the form of bitcoin, according to DailyMail.

Tyler Winklevoss, portrayed as Mark Zuckerberg's rival at Harvard in the 2010 movie 'The Social Network,' announced the Trump campaign donation on X.

According to Bitcoin Magazine, the value of the donation from the twins will be $2 million in bitcoin.

What did Tyler Winklevoss say regarding his endorsement of Donald Trump?

“I just donated $1 million in bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to @realDonaldTrump and will be voting for him in November,” Tyler Winklevoss tweeted on Thursday.

He explained his reasons for the donation, claiming, “Over the past few years, the Biden Administration has openly declared war against crypto. It has weaponized multiple government agencies to bully, harass, and sue the good actors in our industry in an effort to destroy it.”

“This Administration's actions have been nothing short of an unprecedented abuse of power wielded entirely for twisted political gain at the complete expense of innovation, the American taxpayer, and the American economy. There is nothing the Biden Administration can do or say at this point to pretend otherwise,” he added.

“The Biden Administration has consistently attacked American business across the board and villainized its greatest heroes,” Winklevoss remarked.

The donation made by the co-founders of Gemini, Cameron and Tyler, comes amid embattled former President Donald Trump's efforts to narrow the financial gap with President Joe Biden, despite both campaigns drawing in significant funds from their prospective affluent voter base.

The Trump campaign's announcement of “now accepting crypto” on its website suggests an interest in new currencies.

Moreover, the 78-year-old MAGA strongman has positioned himself as a new tech and media mogul, evidenced by the substantial paper value of billions on his Trump Media company, despite a decrease in share value following his felony conviction in Manhattan hush-money case.

Both the former POTUS and former First Lady Melania Trump have previously participated in the sale of digital NFTs.

The Gemini crypto exchange has faced challenges, including the return of over $1 billion to customers from a discontinued lending program and agreeing to pay a $37 million fine for unsafe lending practices.

The co-founders publicly criticized the Securities and Exchange Commission and expressed support for the 2024 presumptive GOP presidential nominee, referring to him as “pro-Bitcoin.”

“President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice. This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth,” Tyler Winklevoss asserted in conclusion to his tweet.

In 2022 and 2023, the co-founders faced criticism for substantial layoffs, which escalated when a video of them performing Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin'' with their cover band went viral shortly after the staff reductions.

Internet mocks Winklevoss twins over $2M donation to 'pro-Bitcoin' presidential candidate Trump

One X user remarked, "Yes Tyler, people with net worths like yours ($2.7B) can't catch a break in this economy."

Another user asked, "What did he do for crypto when he was president?"

Another user wrote, "You could’ve just said “I’ll be voting for Trump” and we would’ve all said “yeah I figured.”"

One X user claimed, "To embrace a lying criminal over this issue is shortsighted. No one's wealth can be safe in a corrupt regime."

Another user argued, "Thats really sad. He says anything to get elected and won't follow through, just like all of them. Why not vote for a person who has been rooting for $BTC all along in @RobertKennedyJr? Please don't insert "he is a wasted vote", that just proves you are par for the norm manipulation."

Another user quipped, "Donald Trump thinks that Bitcoin are actual coins."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Trump himself called crypto a scam on the dollar in 2021. Then became the scam on the dollar in 2023 buy selling NFT's. Then sells bibles, then uses a crowdfunding service for poor people."
