WASHINGTON, DC: It got ugly on Capitol Hill Wednesday when Colorado Rep Lauren Boebert asked her colleagues to pray out loud for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Democrats flat-out shouted, “No.”

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a speaking gig at Utah Valley University, leaving behind his wife and two young kids.

Chaos on House floor over prayer request after Charlie Kirk's death

On the House floor, Speaker Mike Johnson gave Boebert the mic, asking, “What purpose does a gentlelady from Colorado rise?”

Lawmakers were already muttering over her, prompting Johnson to shush the chatter. Boebert pressed on, asking if they could pause to pray for Kirk.

“No!” Democrats barked back, booing the plea.

Boebert wasn’t having it. According to Politico’s Nicholas Wu, she told the chamber that “silent prayers get silent results.” Johnson tried again to quiet the chaos, but Republican Rep Anna Paulina Luna of Florida couldn't hold back.

“Y’all caused this!” Luna shouted at Democrats before reportedly letting expletives fly.

Johnson pounded the gavel. “Let’s, let’s, let’s wait a minute. Wait a minute! The house will be in order," he said, before eventually telling Boebert they’d join in prayer after the floor session.

Wu also reported that several Democrats heckled back, pointing out that a school shooting had just occurred in Colorado that same day. Johnson ultimately gaveled the whole thing down.

Deadly day in Utah and Colorado

Details of Kirk’s killing are still unfolding. A university spokesperson told the Daily Caller he was shot from a building about 200 yards away. Security rushed him to a car and sped him to the hospital. He was in a stable condition at first, but later died of his wounds.

At the same time, Colorado was reeling from another school shooting. At Evergreen High School, a shooter opened fire and injured at least four students. By Wednesday afternoon, three were in critical condition while the fourth’s condition remained unclear.

Meanwhile, Utah’s governor called Kirk’s death “a political assassination.” Flags over the White House dropped to half-staff. Eric Trump said the same would be done at all Trump properties.

The killing sparked a furious response from President Donald Trump.

“For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals,” Trump said in a Wednesday night video message. “This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.”

He demanded “all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree," but still zeroed in on “radical left political violence."

“From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year — which killed a husband and father — to the attacks on ICE agents, to the vicious murder of a health care executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and three others, radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, his son Donald Trump Jr poured his heart out online. He wrote on X that Kirk “was like a little brother to me.”

“Moments like this remind us just how fragile life is,” Don Jr added. “We can’t wait to tell people how much they mean to us — we can’t admire them in silence. Charlie knew he was loved, but I want to say it again: he was a brother to me, and I will carry that with me forever.”
