Vice President JD Vance reiterates the entire Trump administration stands behind ICE officers
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: A deadly midweek shooting tied to federal immigration enforcement has cracked open a federal-versus-local showdown, with Vice President JD Vance making it clear whose side the White House is on.
The shooting, which left a 37-year-old woman dead in south Minneapolis, unfolded less than a mile from where George Floyd was killed in 2020.
Fatal shooting rocks south Minneapolis
The incident took place on Wednesday morning, January 7, near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, an area already tense after days of protests against federal immigration operations.
According to federal sources, ICE officers were conducting targeted enforcement actions when they approached a Honda Pilot driven by Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old US citizen originally from Colorado.
Witnesses said agents attempted to open the vehicle’s door and block its path. Good allegedly reversed and then drove forward. Shots were fired moments later, and her vehicle crashed into another car shortly after.
City officials later identified Good as a 'legal observer' monitoring federal activity, not someone ICE was trying to arrest.
Paramedics rushed Good to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Minneapolis police said they responded to reports of shots fired around 9:30 AM and found Good suffering from life-threatening injuries. Firefighters provided emergency aid before she was transported to the hospital.
Videos going around on social media appear to show an agent firing into the side window of a moving vehicle.

JD Vance, Trump close ranks behind ICE
Vice President JD Vance wasted no time backing federal officers.
“I want every ICE officer to know that their president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind them,” Vance posted on X. “To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we're going to work even harder to enforce the law.”

To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we're going to work even harder to enforce the law.
President Donald Trump echoed that message, citing video footage he claims shows Good 'violently, willfully, and viciously ran over' an officer with her vehicle.
“[T]he woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but he is now recovering in the hospital.”
The Department of Homeland Security also took a hard line. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called the incident an 'act of domestic terrorism.'
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin described Good as 'one of these violent rioters' who 'weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers'
Today, in an act of domestic terrorism, an anti-ICE rioter weaponized her vehicle against law enforcement. Our officer relied on his training and saved his own life, as well as the lives of his fellow officers.

Minnesota leaders push back
State and city officials in Minnesota rejected the federal government’s version of events.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said that the DHS narrative didn’t hold up after reviewing video footage. He dismissed it as 'bulls**t,' accusing federal agents of escalating what he described as a routine situation into chaos.
“We've dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis,” Frey said in a release, calling on federal authorities to withdraw their agents from the city.

Governor Tim Walz also warned residents not to accept the federal narrative at face value.
“Don't believe this propaganda machine,” Walz said, insisting that the videos contradict claims that Good intentionally harmed officers.
I’ve seen the video.
