WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump took a jab at Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Wednesday, December 3, for allegedly saying he is proud to have the Somali community.

The POTUS said on Tuesday, December 2, that Somali immigrants were "garbage". He made the statement as his administration is reportedly increasing immigration enforcement against undocumented Somalis in Minnesota.

Trump says he wouldn't be proud to have the largest Somali community

During a Q&A with reporters on Wednesday, a reporter told Donald Trump, "The mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, has saying that he's actually proud to have the largest Somali community in the country. And his police chief…"

Meanwhile, Trump interjected and said, "Well then he’s a fool… I wouldn't be proud to have the largest Somalian — Look at their nation. Look how bad their nation is. It's not even a nation — it's just a people walking around killing each other."

"Look, these Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country," the POTUS said, adding, "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. And a lot of it starts with Barack Obama because that's when people started coming in."

"You got to have people coming in who love our country, cherish our country. They want to kiss our country good night. They talked about our country we want them to pray for our country. This is not the people living in Minnesota," Trump said.

On Tuesday, the president took aim at Somalis and Rep Ilhan Omar, who is originally from Somalia and is a US citizen.

The POTUS claimed Somalia "stinks" and is "no good for a reason", adding, "They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you."

He also called Omar "garbage" and said, "We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country."

Ilhan Omar's reply to Trump’s attacks on Somali immigrants

Rep Ilhan Omar defended Minnesota’s Somali community after a wave of public remarks from President Trump targeting Somali immigrants

Omar appeared on MS Now on Wednesday and said that Somali Americans are here to "stay", directly pushing back on Trump’s suggestion that Somali immigrants should "go back". She emphasized that many are US citizens who will remain regardless of his rhetoric.

"He's always been a racist, a bigot, xenophobic, and Islamophobic," she said of Trump.

Omar also highlighted Trump’s history of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric, saying, "We know that he called African nations a shithole in his first administration. We know that when he came down that escalator, he said he was going to stop Muslim immigration into this country."

"So it is not surprising that he is going after black immigrants in this country, and it's certainly not surprising that he's choosing a black immigrant community that is also Muslim," she added.

Reaffirming her community’s place in the US, she added, "Most of us are citizens; our passports say we are nationals of this country. We love that Minnesota has welcomed us."
