State Department rebrands USIP as the 'Donald J Trump Institute of Peace'
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump’s name has officially been added to the building and signage at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). Earlier this year, the administration stripped the agency of most of its staff and authority. Now, the building has a completely new look.
The facility has been renamed the “Donald J Trump Institute of Peace,” and the updated signage was unveiled on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. “Welcome to the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come,” the Department of State posted on X (formerly Twitter).
This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation's history.

State Department rebrands USIP as the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace
“This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history,” the Department of State posted, along with a photo of the building’s newly updated entrance.
The Trump administration has effectively put the institute on pause. The United States Institute of Peace was established by Congress in 1984 to prevent and resolve global conflicts. According to CNN, the administration’s latest budget proposal would eliminate all federal funding for the organization.
For those unaware, the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is not part of the federal government, even though it does receive funding from Congress. It owns its own building and manages its own operations.
When the administration attempted to take control of the institute and its property, it set off a lengthy and complicated legal battle that remains unresolved. So far, President Trump has not commented on the renaming of the building that now carries his name.
Meaning behind the new Donald J Trump Institute of Peace name
The Trump administration removed staff from the Institute of Peace and installed its own leadership before a federal judge ruled those actions unlawful, according to CNN. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly confirmed that the Institute of Peace had been renamed in honor of President Trump.
“Now, the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace, which is both beautifully and aptly named after a president who ended eight wars in less than a year, will stand as a powerful reminder of what strong leadership can accomplish for global stability. Congratulations, world!” she said.
However, the claim that the president ended eight wars this year is widely disputed. Many of the conflicts referenced, including the Israel–Hamas situation, remain unresolved. The institute itself did not respond to requests for comment, according to CNN.
