CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA: DeCarlos Brown Jr, the prime suspect of Iryna Zarutska's stabbing that took place on a North Caroline commuter train in August, has been charged with murder, the Justice Department confirmed on Tuesday, September 9.

Now, recently, a video has gone across social media showing the passengers' shocking reaction to DeCarlos Brown Jr attacking the Ukrainian refugee woman on the train.

Bystanders did nothing to protect Iryna Zarutska

In the viral clip, the Ukrainian refugee could be seen entering a light-rail train last month.

She took a seat in front of Brown Jr. After a few minutes, the suspect pulled a pocketknife and slashed her in the neck, officials stated, and she collapsed within seconds.

Interestingly, the clip shows that bystanders "did nothing" to protect Zarutska.

Brown Jr has been accused of fatally attacking the Ukrainian refugee on a North Carolina commuter train and can potentially face the death penalty.

Newsmax host Todd Starnes posted on X and was disappointed with the bystanders.

"Just watched the full video of the savage who attacked the woman on that train in Charlotte. Not a single person offered her assistance. Not a one. Not one single person," Starnes wrote.

Attorney General Pam Bondi added that authorities will seek the maximum penalty.

"Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people. We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence — he will never again see the light of day as a free man," she wrote.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said on Fox News, "Americans have to feel safe in the in the cities that they live in. And this is a stark example of how leftist liberal policies are failing."

The Ukrainian woman had been living in a bomb shelter in Ukraine before moving to the US to escape the war, her relatives said. They also described her as determined to build a safer life.

Internet fumes as bystanders watched the attack

Several internet users fumed with anger as the viral clip showed that not a single bystander tried to protect the Ukrainian woman, who was brutally murdered last month in a commuter train.

A user wrote on X, "It took more than two minutes before anyone even tried to help Iryna Zarutska as she bled out — and all five of these bystanders did nothing" while one added, "Who are they? Can they be charged under Good Samaritan laws? What would you have done?"

A person also stated, "The most depressing part of the full video of Iryna Zarutska's last moments, almost nobody helped her. Only one man rushed to save her, taking the shirt off his back to attempt to stop the bleeding" whereas one mentioned, "Two other passengers on the car just ignored her as she was crying into her hands. They didn't even ask her if she was ok. They just got up and left."

A user also wrote, "Very disappointing reaction by the bystanders that apparently did nothing to help. Heartbreaking" while one commented, "Not many have seen this part of the video of Iryna Zarutska. NOT A SINGLE PERSON HELPED HER!!!! She was panicked and scared and suffered. It was slow and painful. I AM SO PI***D RIGHT NOW."
