BEDMINSTER, NEW JERSEY: President Donald Trump received a warm reception from spectators Saturday, August 8, as he drove a golf cart around the LIV Golf event at his Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.

The president’s appearance came as LIV Golf faces an uncertain future following the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s decision to stop funding the breakaway tour. The league’s CEO said this week that a new lead investor has already agreed to support its next phase.

Trump receives loud ovation at LIV Golf event

Trump was on hand as LIV Golf held its New York event at his New Jersey course, marking the third time the tour has hosted an event at one of his golf clubs.

According to the New York Post, spectators erupted in cheers as Trump drove a golf cart along the course.

The reception came as the event was being held at the president’s own club. Trump has received sharply different reactions at sporting events in recent years, depending on the venue and the crowd.

His appearance also put the president alongside one of the most closely watched golf leagues in the world as LIV attempts to chart its next chapter.

LIV Golf looks for new financial backing

The event comes at a significant moment for LIV Golf.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund, which had been the league’s sole financial backer, announced in April that it would no longer fund the tour. The decision raised questions about whether LIV could continue beyond 2026.

Those concerns appeared to ease somewhat this week after LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced that the league had secured a potential new investor.

"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players," O’Neil said.

The identity of the investor has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Trump’s LIV Golf ties remain in focus

Trump has previously weighed in on the ongoing divide between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, making his presence at the Bedminster tournament particularly notable.

LIV was launched as a rival to the established PGA Tour and quickly became a major force in professional golf after attracting several prominent players with lucrative contracts.

The league’s future has remained uncertain as negotiations and financial questions continue to shape the professional golf landscape. For now, LIV is moving forward with its tournament schedule, while officials work on securing the investment needed to sustain the league in the years ahead.
