ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy lauded presumptive party nominee Donald Trump's performance in the first presidential debate of 2024 against incumbent Joe Biden on Thursday, June 27.

Trump and Biden faced each other for a closely moderated debate hosted by CNN that many believe was a disaster for the president.

During a spin room interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Ramaswamy, who is a probable vice presidential candidate for Trump, sang high praises of the latter, and later shared a clip from the interaction on X.

Vivek Ramaswamy's tweet on Trump's debate performance

"Trump’s strongest moment was when he said he wanted Biden to be a good President so Trump didn’t have to put himself through this. Came across as authentic, credible, honest, unifying. That kind of candor, contrasted with Biden’s apparent lobotomy, won over a lot of independents," the biotech entrepreneur wrote in his tweet on Friday.

In the accompanying clip, Ramaswamy is seen telling Hannity, "If you look at the polling of independents after the 2020 elections, many have said they would have changed their vote had they known about the Hunter Biden laptop. But I am worried this time around, we would be at risk of seeing that on steroids. Because imagine this scenario where Biden won narrowly after he goes on that stage and calls Trump a convicted felon, which is the stated strategy of Democrats right now. Then the Supreme Court overturn the conviction in New York, which I expect is going to happen. What is that going to do of the future of the actual health of Democracy in this country?"

"And I think President Trump's best moments tonight were when he really came through the camera and authentically landed things that were just true," he continued.

"The fact that he doesn't have to be doing this- I thought his admission of that, the fact that 'I would not be running for President if you had done a good job, that I was rooting for you to do a good job,' it was beautiful."

Hannity seconded Ramaswamy's take, leading him to add, "The combination of that honesty... the contrast between that and Biden's inherent absence of presence, will bring a lot of independent voters over tonight."

Internet backs Ramaswamy's take on Trump's debate performance

Netizens were in agreement with Ramaswamy praising Trump, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Exactly! Independents really liked Trump’s debate performance last night!" exclaimed a user.

"It was Trump’s best performance. I thought this debate was going to be rigged against Trump… turns out it was the opposite," shared another.

"It was powerful, and America felt it!" stated a third.

"That definitely was the best thing Trump said," acknowledged a fourth user.

"Trump was respectful & remarkably controlled last night. He absolutely could have been out for blood & he was not. This was just as important for voters to see, as well as Biden’s obvious failed health," commented a fifth.
