NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump made an unexpected campaign stop at a cryptocurrency-themed bar, Pub Key, in New York City’s Greenwich Village on Wednesday, September 18.

The visit took place near New York University, where his 18-year-old son, Barron Trump, recently began attending classes.

Donald Trump mingles with crypto enthusiasts

Donald Trump signed autographs, mingled with fans, and even handed out “crypto burgers” to an enthusiastic crowd.

Video footage from the event showed Pub Key packed with a mix of reporters, crypto enthusiasts, and supporters of the 78-year-old politician.

Margo Martin, deputy director of communications for Trump’s campaign, posted a video on X showing Trump handing out burgers to the lively crowd inside the bar.

“Who wants a hamburger?” asked Trump as the attendees cheered.

“These suckers are good too! This is a crypto burger. Actually, you should name them Bitcoin and a crypto,” he later added.

In another video circulating on social media, the former president can also be seen scanning a QR code to complete a transaction, a nod to the cryptocurrency theme of the place.

Donald Trump's shift in stance over cryptocurrency

Donald Trump’s appearance at Pub Key as part of his campaign stop comes as part of a surprising shift in his stance toward the cryptocurrency industry.

While the Republican presidential candidate had been a vocal critic of digital currencies in the past, calling them “highly volatile and based on thin air” in a 2019 post on social media, his current election campaign has seen an unexpected change in stance.

During a fundraiser with technology executives in San Francisco, Trump announced his intention to be a “crypto president” earlier this year.

Internet mocks Donald Trump's NYC crypto bar visit

After the video of Donald Trump visiting a crypto bar in New York and handing out "crypto burgers" went viral online, netizens mocked the former president's actions.

One user on X wrote, "He's so embarrassing." Another added, "He didn’t seem too impressed lol.. how many people does it take to swipe to accept transaction..? ..they shoulda rehearsed this first or something."

"First president to publicly watch two other dudes make a Bitcoin transaction," a netizen commented. Someone opined, "Bro just wants a drink."

"I’d love to hear him explain what a blockchain is," an individual remarked. Another wrote, "Good. He can do that full time soon."
