Melania Trump's plea for answers
In the video posted on X on Tuesday morning, September 10, Melania said, “The attempt to end my husband's life was a horrible, distressing experience."
“Now the silence around it feels heavy. I can’t help but wonder why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech," she continued.
"There is definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth,” the former First Lady added, according to The Hill.
The assassination attempt on Donald Trump
On July 13, Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet that struck him in the ear during an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The shooting resulted in the death of one rally attendee and injuries to two others.
Secret Service agents shielded the Republican presidential candidate and moved him to his secure vehicle.
At the time, Trump briefly appeared at the front of the stage and raised his fist and also urged his supporters to “fight.”
Before being shot to death by Secret Service snipers, the gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired eight shots.
Witnesses reported seeing the gunman before the shooting, and subsequent investigations into the security failures at the rally eventually led to the resignation of Secret Service Chief Kimberly Cheatle.
FBI investigation and findings on assassination attempt on Donald Trump
In August, the FBI reported that Thomas Matthew Crooks had a “mixture of ideologies” and acted alone, with no collaborators identified in the incident.
According to Kevin Rojek, head of the FBI field office in Pittsburgh, the shooter engaged in detailed planning and was “hyper-focused” on the rally in Butler, viewing it as a target of opportunity.
Melania Trump's absence from Donald Trump's campaign trail
Melania Trump has largely remained absent from the campaign trail and did not deliver a speech at the Republican National Convention on July 18, deviating from the traditional role of the spouse of the nominee.
She also did not attend Trump’s recent five-week-long hush-money trial where he was found guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with the hush-money payment to adult actor Stormy Daniels, related to her silence about an alleged affair in 2006, a claim that Trump denies.
