NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Conservative attorney George Conway has condemned former President Donald Trump for his recent assertions that the FBI was prepared to kill him during their search of Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Speaking with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Conway characterized Trump's claims as emblematic of his “moral depravity” and decried the accusations against the FBI as “absolutely obscene.”

“The notion that so many people had to participate to send this email and are beholden to Trump [and] are doing these things, just shows you the level of just moral depravity that Trump emanated and that surrounds him,” Conway said on Friday, May 24. “Words cannot describe that level of depravity to send this message.”

Donald Trump's fundraising email and George Conway's criticism

Trump's controversial fundraising email, sent on Wednesday, alleged that President Biden was “locked & loaded and ready to take me out.”

According to The Hill, Trump twisted the language from documents related to the FBI’s preparation to search his Palm Beach, Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago. In reality, the FBI’s protocol allows for the use of deadly force “when necessary,” such as when someone poses an “imminent danger of death” to an officer or another person.

The FBI has stated that it followed standard protocol during the Mar-a-Lago search, the same protocol it uses in all operations, including those conducted at President Biden’s office and residence in Delaware. The agency confirmed that the search was conducted when Trump and his family were not home, adhering to established procedures to minimize risks.

Following Trump’s inflammatory claims, Special Counsel Jack Smith requested that Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, issue a gag order to prevent Trump from making statements that could endanger law enforcement officials.

Conway supported this move, holding up his cell phone showing Trump’s email during his CNN appearance and emphasizing the potential dangers of Trump’s rhetoric.

“He’s basically accusing the government of trying to take him out,” Conway said. “And, you know, 10 million people get this email, I don’t know how many people get this email, all it takes is one or two of them to shoot somebody thinking that ‘Hey, I think the government is trying to shoot my president, I’m going to fight back’ and … it’s absolutely appalling.”

Conway praised Smith’s filing, noting that it puts Judge Cannon in a position where she must act. Earlier this month, Cannon, who was appointed by Trump, indefinitely postponed the trial, pushing some court dates into late July and refusing to set a firm trial date. This decision was widely seen as accommodating the Trump team’s requests to delay the trial beyond the upcoming election.

“Do you think that she would do something? I don’t know,” Conway commented. “But she … better because this is just … completely outrageous. I mean, it is really an attempt to incite violence against government agents based on the complete pathological lie and misreading.”

The former president is currently facing 40 charges related to the mishandling of classified documents and obstructing the government’s efforts to retrieve the records after he left office. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

George Conway excoriated on social media

Conway’s remarks have sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many mocking him for his criticism of Trump.

"George Conway sacrificed his family to his hatred for Donald Trump. What a petty, hateful little man," one user posted on X.

"George Conway wouldn't know the truth about anything. His ex-wife has facts. He is no good at the truth," another wrote.

Others suggested Conway’s disdain for Trump is personal and rooted in his relationship with his ex-wife, Kellyanne Conway, a staunch Trump supporter.

"George Conway is a bitter old man since Kellyanne dumped him. He’s a paid shill!" one person alleged.

"It was a Journalist that revealed what the FBI was up to not Trump. Do you think that Conway has mirrors in his home?" a comment read.

"George seems to have a personal problem with Trump. I wonder if it has anything to do with KC?" another speculated.
