NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In the days leading up to his highly anticipated testimony in Donald Trump's hush money trial, Michael Cohen, the former president's once-loyal lawyer, finds himself at the center of controversy for his nightly TikTok livestreams.

Cohen had been using the platform to discuss the case and earn money through viewer donations, a move that legal experts warned could undermine his credibility as a key witness, as reported by the New York Post.

Michael Cohen rakes in money from Trump's hush money trial with TikTok livestreams

In his nightly livestreams on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, Cohen openly shared his thoughts on Trump, the ongoing trial, and the testimonies being given, as observed in hours of footage analyzed by ABC News.

During one recent stream, Cohen remarked to his audience, "Trump 2024? More like Trump 20-40 years." While his actions did not violate any court orders, experts cautioned that such behavior could significantly damage his standing as a critical witness in the high-profile case.

Chris Timmons, an ABC News contributor and former Georgia prosecutor, remarked, "I'd be furious. As a prosecutor, the last thing you want your witness to do is to be talking about the case in a forum other than the courtroom."

Jeremy Saland, a former Manhattan District Attorney's Office lawyer, echoed Timmons' concerns, suggesting that Cohen's unusual actions could potentially favor Trump.

He noted, "I have no doubt that Team Trump is scrutinizing and listening and watching whatever they can, and they are rightfully going to weaponize it in a court of law to tear down his credibility."

Michael Cohen announces decision to refrain from commenting on hush money trial

In response to mounting criticism, Cohen announced his decision to refrain from commenting on Trump until after his testimony in the trial. He said, "I elected, out of respect to the court and the prosecutors, to cease commenting on Trump and this matter; which I have done."

Cohen, who once proclaimed his willingness to "take a bullet" for Trump and referred to himself as the ex-POTUS' "pit bull," is slated to testify as a crucial witness for prosecutors. The trial centers around allegations that Trump falsified his business records to conceal a hush money payment made to Stormy Daniels.

Cohen's own legal troubles, including a three-year prison sentence and a $50,000 fine for offenses such as tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations, have strained his relationship with Trump.

In his 2019 memoir, Cohen even attributed his imprisonment to his association with the ex-POTUS. After serving part of his sentence under home confinement, he was officially released in late 2021.

Internet mocks Michael Cohen over his monetized TikTok streams about hush money trial

One commenter remarked, "So Trump has gag orders, but DA’s star witness allowed to make money on his comments about Trump with impunity. What a three-ring circus."

Another opined, "Obviously his participation in this prosecution is a money grab for him. Should be an entertaining cross-examination," and a person added, "The man is an admitted liar...perjurer. Pleaded guilty of lying to Congress. But star witness for the Dems! What a joke."

"Creep of creeps. A total mess and lying sack of peanut butter," declared someone else, while an individual claimed, "Cohen is a sleaze bag and went to prison for his lies and corruption."

One more bluntly said, "This guy is a loser. Anybody with half a brain knows that."

"What a pathetic man. The absolutely worst form of life," expressed another person, with a netizen asserting, "Michael Cohen only cares about himself and money. He was trash and always will be trash. At least he lost his bar license and can’t practice."
