‘Very disrespectful:’ Matthew Perry's fans express anger as scammers hack 'Friends' star's X account
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Matthew Perry’s fans were shocked and outraged to learn that his X account, formerly known as Twitter, was hacked by scammers who tried to solicit donations in cryptocurrency on Monday, 26 February.
The Matthew Perry Foundation, which was established to honor his legacy and help others with addiction, confirmed the hacking incident and urged people to be careful.
Matthew Perry Foundation exposes the fraud on Instagram
The foundation posted a message on Instagram and X informing its followers that Matthew’s official X page had been hacked and was directing users to a fraudulent site.
"Please do not donate to this site or share the fraudulent posts on social media. MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website associated with the Foundation, and we are only accepting donations through this site,” the foundation wrote.
The foundation also asked people to report any imposter accounts and not to submit donations through any other channel than their official website, the post was later removed from Instagram, however, it was still available on X at the time of writing this report.

According to TMZ, the post in question has been removed from X, but the identity and motive of the scammers remain unknown. It is also unclear how many people fell for the scam and how much money they lost.

Many fans of the beloved actor expressed their anger and sadness over the hacking incident, calling it “disgusting”, “terrible”, and “very disrespectful” to Matthew and his family.
They also praised the foundation for its work and research on addiction and hoped that they would be able to recover any money taken by the fraudsters.
“This is truly unfair to Matthew, he truly deserves better, love & miss you so much Matthew,” wrote one fan on Instagram. “What a shame!.. Be careful!!! Long live Matthew’s foundation,” wrote another.
“Deeply sorry that someone did that. Thank you for the incredible work and research you do for SO many. I hope you will be able to regain any money taken,” commented one more on Instagram on the since-deleted post.
“God, I’m so sorry this happened. What they did was very disrespectful to Matty and his family. :(” One wrote on X.
