WASHINGTON, DC: Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s latest mockery of President Donald Trump quickly drew a response from the White House after the comedian aired a diaper-themed gag tied to Trump’s contentious NBC interview exit.
The administration brushed off the segment as irrelevant. The exchange opened another public clash between Trump allies and one of the president’s most visible late-night critics following his confrontation with NBC’s Kristen Welker.
White House blasts Jimmy Kimmel’s Trump mockery
During ABC’s late-night show, Kimmel aired footage from Trump’s interview with Welker before showing an edited clip depicting the president leaving the set in a diaper.
“You know what? When that dinner bell rings, he’s gone,” Kimmel joked after playing the footage.
He framed the segment around Trump’s tense exchange with Welker, who challenged his claims about California election results.
“Either way, their talk ended in a full-blown Trumper tantrum,” Kimmel said.
The White House quickly responded. “Nobody in their right mind cares what seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel thinks,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said, dismissing the comedian’s monologue.
Trump’s NBC clash fuels criticism
Kimmel’s segment centered on Trump’s interview with Welker, during which the president accused the press of unfair treatment.
After Welker pressed him on his claims that officials were mishandling California vote counts, Trump fired back.
“You’re either crooked or you’re stupid,” Trump told the NBC host in footage aired by Kimmel.
The comedian followed with a personal jab at the president. “This is why he mostly dated women who don’t speak English,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel also suggested Trump was uncomfortable being challenged during the interview, which he noted was interrupted several times by rain.
“I don’t know if he was worried about the cotton candy on his head getting wet or he just didn’t like the fact that he was being taken to task by a woman,” Kimmel said.
According to the clip aired on the show, Trump ended the interview after accusing NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN of being “crooked”.
“Can you imagine any other president in the history of any other place doing that?” Kimmel asked. “That was a hissy fit.”
Jimmy Kimmel targets Trump’s NBA Finals appearance
The comedian expanded his criticism beyond the NBC interview and turned his attention to Trump’s appearance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.
“New York celebrities were in attendance tonight, including our president, who was too busy with the war to go to his son’s wedding, but had no problem carving out time to swallow nachos at the Knicks game tonight,” Kimmel said.
He also mocked the security arrangements surrounding the visit.
“Donald Trump is the first sitting president ever to completely disrupt an NBA Finals game in person because he decided to go,” Kimmel said. “They had to cancel the watch party outside the Garden. Fans had to get there two hours early to get through security.”
Kimmel later connected the discussion to election politics, joking about vote-counting delays in the Los Angeles mayoral race.
Meanwhile, the White House’s decision to publicly answer the comedian ensured the latest late-night jab became another flashpoint in Trump’s ongoing battles with mainstream media critics.
