WASHINGTON, DC: On Sunday, April 29, Fox News' Shannon Bream interviewed Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) regarding his past criticisms of former President Donald Trump.

Bream referred to a recent report from The New York Times that highlighted the senator's marked shift in stance from harshly characterizing the former POTUS as “loathsome” and an “idiot” to potentially being on his vice-presidential shortlist.

Per HuffPost, Bream also mentioned David Frum, a Trump detractor and former speechwriter for ex-President George W. Bush, who has known the Buckeye State senator for years and reportedly said that Vance had "sunk to the depths of political degradation."

“Now, he’s not changed over the last few years,” the Fox News host claimed regarding Trump. “He’s the same guy we’ve been knowing for a long time. So what’s changed with you that you’re OK with the behavior and you’re supporting him and maybe joining his ticket?”

What prompted the social media backlash towards Sen JD Vance?

Senator JD Vance shared a shortened clip on his X account that begins after Bream’s question and only shows the Republican’s response in which he praises the former president’s administration.

“The policies and the results were really there. We had low inflation, we had rising wages, and we had a world that wasn’t on fire. And now, after four years — three years — of Joe Biden, we have rising inflation, a stagnating economy, and it seems like a crisis in every single sector of the world,” Sen Vance asserts in the video.

“If you can’t look at the four-year accomplishment of Donald Trump and say, ‘From the perspective of 2015, I was wrong. I didn’t think he would be a good president. He was a great president,’” he argued. “That’s not about, you know, sinking to political degradation. That’s looking at reality and recognizing that Donald Trump was a success.”

Sen Vance addressed his previous criticism of the former president in a 2022 interview with New York Magazine. Vance has stated that it would be "a great honor" to be chosen as Trump's vice presidential nominee.

“I think there are so many reasons I was wrong about Trump, but I’m happy that I was wrong about Trump,” he remarked.

Vance, who received the former president's endorsement during his Senate campaign in 2022, is still friendly with Donald Trump Jr. The two talk on the phone "nearly daily" and make an effort to get together when they are in the same area.

Another user asked, "How can this guy keep a straight face while he says such ridiculous lies?"

Another user said, "What a waste of a perfectly good Senate seat!"
