WASHINGTON, DC: Karoline Leavitt is the new White House Press Secretary appointed by President Donald J Trump in his second term. At the age of 27, the New Hampshire native is the youngest person ever to hold the position, as per The Sun.

The office of the press secretary has not been held by anyone under the age of 30 since 1969 during the presidency of Richard Nixon. Leavitt reportedly hit the ground running and teased a "massive" announcement from POTUS on Tuesday, January 21.

Appointment of Karoline Leavitt

In his statement announcing Karoline Leavitt's appointment in November 2024, Trump claimed she is "smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator."

"I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again," he added.

Leavitt's excitement about her new role has been visible on social media. She retweeted a video of workers cleaning the White House briefing room on January 20, writing, "Thank you to the hardworking White House staff for preparing for our arrival. See you soon!"

Later, she posted a picture of Trump's inauguration ceremony from the Capitol Rotunda with the caption, "The Golden Age of America has begun."

Before being appointed as his White House aide, Leavitt served as the national press secretary for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, and as the assistant press secretary during Trump's first term when she was fresh out of college.

Early career of Karoline Leavitt

Graduating from Saint Anselm College in 2019 with communications and political science degrees, Karoline Leavitt started her career as an intern at Fox News. Before finishing her senior year, she also interned in the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence.

Leavitt worked as the assistant press secretary of Kayleigh McEnany during Trump's first administration, and then as a communications director for Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

In 2022, Leavitt began campaigning to get elected as a Congresswoman herself and won the Republican primary in New Hampshire in September of that year. She was congratulated by Trump on her victory "against all odds," but went on to lose the general election to incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas.

Karoline Leavitt is new mom

Getting engaged to 59-year-old entrepreneur Nicholas Riccio in December 2023, Karoline Leavitt welcomed her son Nicholas with him in July last year.

However, dedicated to her work, Leavitt appeared for a televised interview only four days after giving birth. She claimed to be inspired to return to Trump's campaign trail after the latter faced an assassination attempt while speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.

“I looked at my husband and said, looks like I’m going back to work," she later shared of her reaction to the incident during an interview.
